Hi Folks,

I'm sure 99% of you are running full hydro brakes and do not care about old cable actuated brakes. But there are still a few luddites like me that like cable brakes for the trail side repairability.

I've had one set of BB7s that I've mounted on my various main bikes for 7+ years. Never did a lick of maintenance on them over the entire period of ownership other than adjust the pad distance to the rotor and replace pads periodically. The last month or so, the rear caliper never fully released and there was a slight drag of the pad on the rotor. So I looked up how to tear these down and found these videos:

Part 1:
Part 2:

It was a pretty easy tear down and clean up. My brakes work awesome again. They stop much easier and release completely for no rotor rub.

Only downside is the part where you insert the piston back into the caliper body. There is a spring retaining ring on the piston, and I could not for the life of me get the piston with that retaining spring back into the caliper body for one of the calipers. It snapped in fine on the other one. So one of my calipers is now missing the retaining ring and I'll just have to be a bit more careful of the piston falling out the next time I replace the pads.

I have a caliper that would lock up at one spot near full travel. It might just need a tune up but if you would like the spring with the caliper feel free to contact me. I just installed 2 new calipers.
