What are people using for wheel truing?? In the old days on bike alignment could easily be done with with rim brakes. Thinking about a stand for my 29er wheels. I know the grail is the Part TS-2.2, but at $200 is quite pricey. Under $100 are a few options. There's a Spin Doctor stand that hits both sides of the rim, while the sturdier Park TS-8, but only hits one side of the rim. There are other options too, but those are the majors. |

You could just take them to a shop. Mike at north of the border does a great job. I think it may be like 30 a wheel for retentioning and truing. |

If you will be doing a lot of wheel work, sure, buy a stand. But if you're talking about your everyday wheels on your bike, just true them on the bike. Put it in your bike stand, or flip it over, get a comfortable stool or chair and go to it. You can put a zip tie on the fork or seat stay, trimmed so the end just touches the rim. But you can also just grab a screwdriver or pencil or something, and clamp it to the fork or seat stay with one hand, while spinning the wheel, eyeballing it, and tightening spokes with the free hand. |

I use two zip-ties (one each side) for each wheel since they can deviate from the true centerline in two axis'... and I use the really stout ties (1/4" - 5/16"?) - the ones from the Harbor Freight assortment pack that you can't find any other good use for - they're very rigid and stay in-place well. I don't worry too much about roundness, unless it's quite noticable - which is seldom, because I'm just a XC/trail pussy. Good luck! |

i have a cheapo stand i got from performance a while back. it's only single sided, and that can be a pain. it seems like the zip tie approach might even work better. i was able to build a set on that stand though... |
