It's really hard to catch a proper descender on an analog bike on an emtb. At 19 MPH, you're pedaling a 48 lbs bobbing bike. LOL... Can't wait for the Levo SL-esque genre of eMTBs to come on strong in the near future. Youtube link here: https://youtu.be/1YmDwnnpn5Q |

Well, I agree with you ozzer that a “proper” descender (both skillful & strong, of which I am not much of either) is going to be faster on a bike lighter than today’s standard eMTB, assuming both bikes have good suspension properly setup. The more pedaly and less gravity sections though might go to the eMTB guy, whose properly-setup bike should not be bobbing. The new crop of lightweight eMTB’s will be the best of both worlds. Nice video. I think though that I will also soon be agreeing with Dirtrider as well. I’ve been saying that the uphills are fun on my new bike, but the downhills were less fun, as the heavy bike seemed ponderous and required more muscling around. BUT that was my mistake in being in a hurry to get riding. I got my sag set and just went (lazy me) with midrange rebound & compression settings. But I started thinking it really should feel better, given the good suspension & geometry. Dale suggested I revisit the tuning, and what a difference it made, after I started at zero and worked back up to optimum (much lower) rebound & compression. The last ride was so much more fun — the bike felt lively and 20lbs lighter going downhill. Can’t wait for the next ride. |
