Tamarancho Boy Scout Camp

Paid my $5 and took a long ride up a paved road. Then I found THE SIGN (promising!)

And there was lots of great single track. The basic loop is just awesome. Well built, flowing, variety of terrains. The only knock is that there aren't a lot of choices - you can ride the basic loop, or you can ride a section outside the park to replace part of the loop. So you have an Option 1, and an Option 1A.

And then, a slight detour into an adjacent Open Space for a view back to the Bay.

Two days earlier, I rode Crockett Hills. East Bay Parks is using Crockett Hills to try to make MTBers happy since (same old story) they have less access/rights to ST within the East Bay park system. East Bay has a huge amount of open space, but MTBs are usually restricted to ranch roads in the "official" trails. I didn't take any pictures from the best part of Crockett - the new single track trails in the forest. Winding between trees and poison oak. That was fun, but short.

The picture below is the best part of the new single track in the grassland part of the park. Overall this section is good, not great. The grassland ST is more narrow than a ranch road, but it's pretty uniform.

In the outer reaches of the grassland part of the park, showing the path / ranch road on which I arrived at the sign post (not a lot of traffic out there)

And the other direction

(This is continued from the main-area thread where I asked for info about trails in NorCal. I posted a few rides there.)

Sweet pics. Thanks for posting pics from Boys Scout. Old stomping grounds and a brisk sprint distance from a LBS I worked at.

Sweet pics, Russ. We need more of that first sign in San Diego!
