Took a little solo ride at Calavera this morning... Sunny and beautiful... Hardly anyone there except maybe 4 to 5 hikers and another biker....Temp about 80 - yea it was hot. The other day I was going to ride after work but Pete mentioned to be careful cause the rattlers were out
So I took a spin class instead... This morning I decided I wanted to be outside so off I went. Made it all the way to Ben's with only a few stops to decide which way I wanted to go.
Of course I kept my eyes wide open for any movement on the sides of the trails and I slowed down when I had to go around a corner just in case... Harley & Don both found out what happens when you come flying around the corner on a nice sunny day!
I saw plenty of roadrunners and rabbits.
I headed back the usual way... down the rabbit trail to the meadow to the Eucalyptus and then up to that spot... I don't know the name....then up again to the lower trail around the water tower and headed up to the pad when something caught my eye.... yep finally it was a rattler... a small one but it was enjoying its breakfast... a nice healthy looking rabbit! I was so excited but yet so nervous in case another one was lurking about... Those who know me know that weird things happen to me
All I had with me was my phone so the photos aren't so great but I got as close as I felt comfortable and my hands kept shaking like a 5.0 earthquake.... I took several pics then headed up to the pad being sure to stay in the middle of the trail... all the way back to the truck.
