Sometimes when there is no strength in your legs, you can find some in your soul. Started out on a small group ride at slow social pace, but surprised myself by having nothing to give. I was expecting to feel stronger, as I'd had a good night's sleep. It got hot early, and I knew hanging with the group was not an option, even though they would not have let me be dropped. Headed back to the car via three favorite descents, and even the downhills wore me out. Had to take some rests so I could revel in short bursts of flow and speed. There was a good breeze on top of the hill overlooking the lake, and I found myself wishing for a comfortable big rock to relax on, but there were none nearby. Approaching the car, a kingbird convinced me to continue, leading me from post to post, branch to branch, and down to the water. The cool breeze, birds in the brush, and wind on the water were peaceful. It was not what I'd planned, but it was a good ride of a different kind.
