I'm doing the 25, figured since my company would pick up the registration what the heck. It's looks like a lot of up and down, a coworkers strava track said almost 3500 feet and 27 miles. I'm going to get worked! |

I did this event last year, there were a couple brutal climbs. Had planned to do it this year, but did not for various reasons... |

I had a good day out there. I stopped by Poway Bicycle the night before just to buy some GU and a new pair of sunglasses, and walked out with a loaner / demo Niner RKT 9 RDO to ride in the race. My bike is an aluminum '08 Trance X2; 26" 3x9. The RKT is a full out XC race bike, 29", full carbon, 1x11. I figured with all the climbing dropping 5lbs of bike weight and having a more efficient climber would make the day less painful. The RKT is an awesome XC race bike!!!! The course is definitely hilly!!!! There's a good mile to mile and a half grinder in the middle, and a couple of short stand up and mash the pedals to try and make it to the top climbs. A bunch of the DH sections have big sand pits at the bottom, which is a little sketchy seeing as how I was hitting like 36mph here and there. They actually had guys at the bottom waving people down to make sure they slowed before they hit the sand. I did ok, solid "middle of the pack" (64/125 overall) performance for a non-racer. Strava said avg speed of 11.4 over 27 miles with 3200 feet of climb. This is the course if anyone is curious: https://www.strava.com/activities/521327221 |

Nice race review, I especially like that you got to ride under artillery guns, or whatever they are called, cool. |
