I've never ridden up the paved fire road at Noble (probably 'cause I'm scared), but it's on the bucket list and I need to get it over with before I'm too old, weak or apathetic. Hell, it may already be too late....but I'd still like to give it a go.

Anyone foolhardy enough to join? I won't be doing this on my own, so if there's no response, I'm out.

FYI, if you think you want to do it, please note that you will need a high level of tolerance, as I'll likely be crying, whining and possibly puking from the halfway point to the top. The climb will be slow, methodical and tedious. The descent will be what it is, and could possibly also be slow and methodical, dependent on the degree of wobbly rubber in the legs.

Anyone sold on this horrible idea?

This does not sound like fun. Sounds like suffering.

But, I hate climbing Power Lines in PQ. Really I just hate climbing in general….

You should do it. It's really not a bad climb.

Well, I have done it. Once, by myself, the first time I rode Noble. The Alp Du Wheeze is some dang steep pavement, but its not that long. You are stronger now than I was back then, so you'll be fine, although it may feel just as you described....which is why nearly everyone shuttles it. More fun. But I know you, you're gonna have to experience it yourself.

Have fun.

I did it once, and it was a very hot day (triple digits by the time we were done). Most of it wasn't too bad, but there are some exceptionally steep sections near the top. It's definitely worth doing once, if for no other reason than you can tell other first-timers that there are some exceptionally steep sections near the top . . . .

I have Saturday off this week...what time are you thinking about starting from the lower trail head?

Doh! Started to think there was no interest in this and I so just made alternative plans earlier this morning. Apologies for the bait and switch Mitch. Let's take Sue's advice and wait for it to cool down a bit more and attempt to re-group in the near future.

When I did it, I veered off at the point where there is a big tree and took a trail that dropped us onto Sunrise Highway East of the Upper Noble trailhead, is that the route you are planning? The climb sucks, but its manageable, just keep grinding. I'll keep my eyes open for the new date and try and make it.

I'll do it with you. I have done it twice. Once earlier this year and once 4 or 5 years ago. It is tough, but there's a great deal of satisfaction in doing it. Kinda like getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick. It feels so good when it stops:) It's all about pacing yourself to the top. Go as slow as you like. I would definitely prefer to do it when it's cooler. Please post up or PM me at least a week before you would plan to do it.

Used to do it every time I rode up there back when I was 10 years younger on a heavier bike with 3x8 gearing. Then I started riding with groups and have been shuttling ever since. However, just for the workout, we did the paved fire road ride up back in June and aside from one 1/2 mile stretch leading up to the tree OldDogDan is talking about, it wasn't bad at all. I was surprised how smooth it went **BUT** I would definitely wait until it's cooler.

I was kind of interested in the ride, but thought about the heat too, plus I have the kid sports schedule, blah blah blah. Shannon, let me know when you plan to do this ride because I'd like to join if it works out. I've done it several times but not in the last two years, and Noble (not Elbon) has been calling me.
