We were slow to get moving on Day 2. Some of our bikes had picked up some mud on the first day, so we took the time to clean that off. It was chilly first thing in the morning but soon warmed up. The sun soon dried off the road which opened up new possibilities, and we decided to ride over to Grafton rather than ride the rest of Gooseberry. James volunteered to pick us up at the bottom as he had tweaked his knee and couldn't exert much force with that leg. Fire wood or bike stand? Day 2 looking much more promising Snake on the trail. It sat perfectly still while I waited for the next rider. When no one came, Richard hiked around to get a shot Richard riding on the edge Bjammin onto a rock roll Nice chunky open section of rock Views were epic along the whole mesa Bjammin rounds a corner Bjammin rolls past some flowers Views from the rest break spot Richard near the edge These flowers were out of control We drop down into the drainage before climbing up to Grafton. Last time it was very difficult to find the connector. This time it was more visible. Obviously, this route is now getting some traffic. Climbing out of the creek bed Gman on the switchbacks The fun begins up on Grafton My turn on the rock roller Richard follows Bjammin The big rock roll Bjammin enjoys the berm And follows it onto the big rock Pretty flowers We get to the rock slabs Richard on the double roll The last feature before the drop off the mesa Gman hits a rock huck Looking down over the drop from the mesa Billy right on the edge Stopping to check out the entry to the descent off the mesa Gman rolling Bjammin approaches the notch Richard rolls past some flowers Stopping to check out the view Hitting the final descent to the valley bottom Billy hits the fade away drop Billy and I hit the small gap Bjammin rolls the line around the edge. While it looked easy, it was probably harder than the gap we did. You never know what will happen when the fashion twins come to town Another pretty sunset The total ride was around 15mi, very respectable for what should be an easy connector and a shuttleable descent. Fun times, this is one of my favorite trail combos in Goose. |

Hitting the final descent to the valley bottom If there's been a better picture than this on DT, I don't think I've seen it. |

Why, oh why, have I never ridden Grafton Mesa in my 15,000 trips to that area??? |
