Part I: Pre-hangover ride We wanted to check out a trail we had found the day before that we were told was pretty cool. We had some time to kill after breakfast before meeting Bankerboy, so off we went for a pre-hangover ride. Temps weren't bad as the sun was out but it was still chilly enough to have ice in the shade A bit of climbing would yield a sweet reward And they're off Gman rolls 406 over an intricately built rock wall onto a skinny ledge More skinnies to come. 406 living on the edge evdog to 406: out of the way! Small log huck Nice construction methods used only materials from on site Skinny onto a dirt spine Onto another log ride 406 crosses next Dropping into a creek crossing Water still crusted with ice climbing out We stop at a cool waterfall on the way out OK, a cold waterfall Cool trail, definitely had not been ridden in some time. And you probably thought sedona was all about rock! |

Part II - Hangover We picked up Bankerboy at Bike n Bean and drove over to Schnebly hill road. We opted to climb the singletrack rather than the road. Clouds had moved in big time and the temperature had dropped sharply so we would be in need of all the warm up we could get. Grab bankerboy and we're off to each his own (pic courtesy Gman) Another Robo special Bankerboy climbs a steep while I wait in a holding pattern, trying to keep tires dry for grip (pic courtesy Gman) Gman conquers a tough corner Gman is either feeling some kind of zen, or warming his hands over an imaginary fire Climbing up Cow Pies. We had snow flakes fall on us at this point for a few minutes Bankerboy contemplates his next move 406 looks for an angle to drop in Traversing the ledge Gman enjoys a short stretch of dirt Preparing to get our climb on 406 reaches the top (pic courtesy Gman) Looking out over the valley Cool view Almost worthy of where's waldo Sometimes its no fun being tall Bankerboy cruises below the ledge (pic courtesy Gman) I can squeak through I try this one the reverse direction 406 below the hangover Gman high above the valley 406 on some off camber rock The sun finally makes another appearance Bankerboy and I descend 406 is back onto slickrock Gman seems to be dropping off the edge of the earth Bankerboy dropping the chute View from below (pic courtesy Gman) Everyone's stoke meter is cranked 406 on another off camber rock section Gman takes the high line 406 rolls a ledge Gman prepares to roll a steep one 406 finds the right line (pic courtesy Gman) Traversing back to the south Dropping off the ridge Down below we get a brief rest from the chunk (pic courtesy Gman) Bankerboy ducks under a tree Back in the chunk (pic courtesy Gman) We climb up the road to the main lookout. Here's one more for baja! Nice view over Cow Pies and the valley More for Baja! (pic courtesy Gman) Bankerboy descends off the rock formation This is looking up to the top of the rock formation we were just on. A jeep guide I talked to told me that one of the locals rides a line down this face somewhere. I can't see a line The descent down munds wagon tr is fast Its a lot easier going down than up We continue on At least we could clean this section going one way The sun peaks out again as we get back to the truck This was our longest day of riding. With cool temps expected during the night we were stoked when Bankerboy offered us a hookup to the spa at the hotel he was staying at. With cold temps all week, the spa would warm us up before heading back to camp each night. Thanks Matt! Hope you enjoyed hangover...truly an amazing trail. |

What a fun day. I was so excited to find the magical vortex that transported us from Sedona to the North Shore and back. It takes skill and luck to find hidden trails when one doesn't have GPS tracks or good directions, big props to evdog for knowing that we should look for such a fun trail! My photos. bankerboy: evdog in cool slot: mind the cacti: Miss the turn and fall off a cliff into yucca, I walked, evdog rolls around with no problem: bankerboy agrees with me: We were all stoked, gman: for Baja: |
