Sunday was a bit of a Hangover day. Unfortunately the newly weds wouldn’t be joining us as Ali’s wrist was hurting and they wanted to get on the road. After a warmup on Schnebly Hill Rd, it was time for some chip tossing. But Quaestionis was mortified to have found himself in a vortex. Once escaping, we press on. But danger looms ahead. Safely pass, our challenge still lay above. Even if you fail to get a Hangover, getting to this viewpoint is well worth it. An accounting for the bodies at the end of the ride. But getting the initial Hangover is always intimidating. And never really goes away. I’m sure the person who came up with this trail idea must have been seen as completely off their rocker when initially enlisting help to build it. Attempting to build a trail on a 25’ overhanging, vegetated shelf with nearly shear rock face above and below is mind blowing and an amazing feat to be accomplished. For those that have the opportunity to ride it, an indelible mark is forever left in the memory. But watch out for vortexes, they are seemingly everywhere. This trail is really a catwalk, but the vegetation blocks the thought out of what lays below. Getting off Hangover is equally intimidating. Quaestionis did a great job riding down this face. Above view of me going down Quaestionis and I head down Munds Wagon trail while Spec-Ed and PacMan decide to take the road down to the parking lot to avoid any further possibility of slicing another sidewall on the third day. While everyone take off and heads back to San Diego, I stay a few hours longer to go Hog wild. Although not nearly as well built as the other two trails, High on the Hog & Hog wash round out the HHH of the three most technically challenging trails in Sedona. If anyone is thinking about riding Sedona, don’t let these photos intimidate you as there is a very large network of intermediate trails that are well within everyone’s riding ability and just as scenic. |
