Another trail, another shuttle. This time, Larison Rock trail was up. It is a short one at around 4mi, but from all accounts it was a good one. There are more than just ferns in Oregon We're soon unloaded and ready to roll 406 leads the way We took a short detour up to Larison rock itself, which offered a decent view Time to ride The detour up had given us a preview of the trail. As it had been all up to Larison Rock, it was all down the rest of the way GP_pilot approaches a switchback It was buff enough for James And a perfect hardtail trail for Offroadie Once on the main trail, the operative word was: down. Down, down, down While it was a sweet, buff trail there were no breaks in the grade whatsoever. We found ourselves wishing for a flat spot in the trail or a short climb, to relax sore braking hands. The grade was steep enough that I was on the brakes hard the whole way down. You really couldn't let go 406 rides past some large chunks of douglas-fir When a ride is this short I usually don't want it to be over, but I was a bit glad this one was. The constant grade might be perfect for hikers or climbing on a MTB, but descending it was not so fun. Total rolling time including overlook detour was 30min. But who am I to complain? Instead of heading straight back to camp after dinner 406 wanted to go find more naked truckers. We also wanted to check out the hot springs during the day We had already swam twice today so I chose to stay on dry ground. But 406 is a hot springs/cold swim maniac There were multiple pools ranging from hot to cold river water. Very relaxing after a day of riding The steam off the water in the fading sunlight was cool to see. Great end to a great day Heading home...it would be early to bed as we would have another big ride the next day....MRT |

The original plan was to ride a portion the Middle Fork Willamette River, another supposedly great river trail some 25 miles in length. Yet considering we had another 25 mile river trail planned for the next day, we decided not to run ourselves into the ground. With a bounty of shuttle runs in the Oakridge area, we chose the next most popular trail to Alpine. The tress up here don’t seem to care about not shaving Hairy gents Everyone moaned about climbing to the Larison Rock itself, but Deno and I were all about the bonus climbing which was all rideable until the last 20’. View wasn’t as dramatic as the earlier shuttle, but Evdog was in his lumber jack element again. The extra bit climbing was well worth riding back down This trail was a total bomb fest all the way to the bottom. Let off the breaks at anytime and it feels like someone is pushing you from behind. Stang makes a water sparkler in a mid turn drainage Once at the end, it’s a short but picturesque ride to the parking lot Ending our day early for once, including dinner at Big Mountain Pizza and another stop by Brewer’s Union Local 180 to sample two new cask ales, allowed a relaxing evening around the campfire for everyone, While Deno made marshmellow flambé, And night finally settles in somewhere past 10pm, ending two great days in Oakridge. |

Stop with these treader reports already! You're demotivating me to ride our local stuff. My beer intake has soared as a consequence and my gut has grown to half the size of Evan's! PS: The church lady called. She wants her van back. |

Another fun day. Nice having the hotsprings with no truckers. Only have one good photo, to dark for my camera. |
