If we had an agreement with Carlsbad Parks for a regular 1/2 day a month or every other month to do Biking Centric trail work, how many would be on board? Keeping in mind this would be Carlsbad property only. The ultimate intention would be to show good faith and eventually move formalized trail work onto CDFW land and give the biking community a voice within the use of the land? Examples of bike centric work would be, errosion/rut control, growth management, bicycle trail improvements, ie Burms, authorized feature creation where acceptable. |

Work like brushing and drainage benefits everyone. You wouldn't need to call it bike related. In fact it would probably better to approach the city simply as concerned local citizens rather than as a bike group assuming they are displeased with the current trails situation. Then once you've worked with the land manager for a while and built trust you can propose work that is more bike specific. Things like berms and water control features can always be justified to help with drainage and sustainability without pointing out they make the trail more fun to ride (not that there should be anything wrong with that). But makes your motives sound more consistent with what land managers want to hear. |

Agreed, the initial approach would be a concerned group that happens to be Mtn bikers wanting to help with trail maintenance. Erosion, rut, brush control, as opposed to the normal trail work days that are garbage pickup, fence installation, trail widening, etc. We want to keep it natural and sustainable. The other stuff would come down the road once good faith, etc is established. I bring this up because I have done some traveling to other parts of the country where they have good relationships with land management and they have regular trail work days, some places weekly during the summer (trail work is hard with snow and ice) so if we could establish an every other month trail maintenance day, I think we could see substantial improvement in existing legal trails and grow the good relationship towards working on the other parts of the trail network. |

You may be better off contacting CNLM, although they may just refer you back to the City. At least CNLM understands trails from their La Costa experience. If the genuine trail work was being directed by CNLM rather than City, it would be better. |

There is a group looking to do this next Wednesday morning starting at 8am, the City will have a registration booth at the Entrance on Skyhaven. I would have to take a day off work to attend, but perhaps those with more flexible schedules could attend? They have a mandatory training and provide all the tools needed. |
