We are down to our last build day for the east ridge of Black Mountain.

Come join us to wrap up nearly 4.5 miles of new, three years in the making, non-arsenic laced ( ) single track.

When - Saturday, Feb 4, 7:45 am

Where - Sundevil Trail head

Please help us out by RSVPing --> Black Mountain Trail Day

We will work until noon and then enjoy refreshments and goodies compliments of Quick n' Dirty.

If you haven't been out to see the new trails, this is an ideal time to get a ground level perspective of what is available.

I should be there to help out. Since I "test rode it" last Sunday I'm looking forward to completing it. You can ride loops out there with very little traffic (for now)

You are always welcome but if you have a doctor's note, I will let your absence slide. It is nice to know you can still move after all that. Heal up.

As of today, February 4, the trails under the current management plan at Black Mountain are complete. Thank you to over 230 different soles who have supported us the last couple of years. A huge thanks to Senior Ranger Ed, Ranger Carey, Ranger Rob, Ranger Brian, and every other person who has ever picked up a tool to support the build.

Today's final crew, post work...

230 different soles? So is that 115 different people? Or 114 and two pirates? Just kidding...that is awesome, and I am happy to have been one (or two?) of them, on at least one occasion. Should have been more. Thank you.

Another Destination Ride site for San Diego.
WooHooo!

Plus, it easily links up with LPQ/DMM for a very strenuous and long day.

Hi Matt,

I sure wish I could have helped out with the last section of Manzanita. But I've still not fully recovered from stumping on the first half of Manzanita last year.

I hiked the Manzanita loop last week (my back is not up to pedalling uphill that much yet, so I'm a hiker for now). I was hiking around Manzanita clockwise. At the top of the peak, there is a 4-way intersection. I went right, and wound up on the old fire road downhill instead of the continuation of Manzanita. Which way should I have gone at that intersection to continue on the new Manzanita loop?

At the top of the East Ridge there is an intersection. The one on the top that follows the ridge line (going north and south)is old and should not be used. When going over the top to the east side of the East ridge (heading east bound) you will find another four way intersection. One goes down (left turn) to the water tower in the older section of PQ (east and downward) and the other goes west(right turn) back to the top of the ridge. (assuming you started from the upper saddle on the west side)
Sounds so clear, eh?
In both cases go straight and do not turn right or left. The rangers will be installing signs up there soon.

Mike is spot on and signs are coming shortly. All red lines are off of the Manzanita trail. As long as you go straight, in most cases, you are fine. Only one section is where we utilized the old fire line to link the southern "finger" section with the northern main loop. When people are heading out the fire road in a south east direction, they keep turning left onto the old fall line. Don't do that. Instead follow it all the way out to the point and look for the trail on your right. If you find that, you cannot get lost.

Thanks Mike and Matt! The intersection on the bottom left of the image is the one where I took the incorrect right turn.

Ah, it appears you took little Black Mountain. Did you walk through a small meadow and then head up hill into a series of water features? Then it is orangish dirt, somewhat exposed on the hillside? In the end you would have come out by a split rail fence and then followed the old roadbed down the hill towards Hilltop or Sundevil, correct?

BTW, did I see you in a post riding in PQ this past weekend? Is there hope for you on a bike?
