Building Legal Single Track in PQ!!

Image

Come on out and join us build the first new legal single track in Penasquitos! The trail is tentatively called The Appendix. It is in the canyons close to where the original Intestines were, hence the name. This is a partnership with Pardee, the City, and trail users. We will be taking advantage of the forecasted rain.

Meeting Saturday, March 12, 8am Close to the corner of Hollywood and Vine.

Please RSVP so I can calculate tools needed. Remember gloves and water!

I'll see you there.

I still think a better name is "Colostomy". That's what they call the surgery when they rip out all your Intestines and then give you an alternate place to "go".

That is awesome Paul  Totally agree.

Someone get in there and name it that on Strava and it will become Colostomy!

It works...everyone calls Mel B trails No Flow and Slaught-car by those names from Strava, not Rebel's Run as the builder signed them.

edit... probably not gonna make it this weekend.

I think it is a better name too. Not stuck on anything.

30 Volunteers came today including 5 from the equestrian community. Nice to see and helped us make sure we didn't create things that would cause issues for them. I am happy to report they are human and quite nice folks.

Last nights rains were perfect although it made the hike out slicker than snot. A couple volunteers got up close and personal with the mud real fast!

So let's do this do this backwards starting with the rewards for the work. Pardee/Allen Kashani provided Chipotle and by noon we were cooked

There might have been adult beverages too but I can't remember

We focused on the southern most section of the trail where a reroute was needed due to a woodrat nest. Yep, even those are protected. The original cutting is hard to see but it is directly past the marker flags. The new route will go to the right, through the brush and we utilized the brush to eliminate the original, bad line.

After-nearly the exact same spot

There were root balls from bushes that were on par with what we tackled last year on Lilac. Us old guys with bad backs figured it out. YOUTH!!

The soil was very damp but because it is clay, it was crazy dense. To cut a line like this took 5-6 people 2 - 3 hours.

As always, please stay off this trail for now. It is still incomplete and there are some serious obstacles in place. Besides the soil needs to set up and dry out a bit before it is ready for traffic. I promise to post up the opening date as soon as we have it.

Want to participate? I will post up the next date as soon as I have it.

Good news about the equestrians joining. Although horses and mountain bikes do not always mix well, it is generally in our interest to forge alliances with equestrians for multi-use trails. And also to help each other get bike (think DH) and horse specific trails where we can.

Finished it this afternoon. Check it out. Should be a nice addition to the usual route for a lot of folks. Have to give 50% credit to one person. Rich Julien singlehandedly build half of this trail and that is not an estimate. Great job Rich!

Nice job! I actually made it out after work one day last week. Rode this and Cam Ru for the first time. Both have a bit of the Tunnels flavor if you can't scratch your itch with the one tunnel we have left.

I made it out there today. The trail is excellent: that Rich Julien literally did half of it comes as no surprise to me, in light of his past achievements. Encountered a really fine red diamondback near the very end of the trail, a good 4-footer.

I was out there around 4 today and saw the same snake in the same spot. It was maybe 10 feet from the top slithering downhill into the bushes. No appetite issues with that one. Not a red as some but the striking black and white tail is pretty impressive.

The trail is great because there are lots of checks build in. Not liking the chicane just before the river but most everything else is good. Needs a solid year of use to see what needs to be done and if we have issues.

I sought this out today for the first time and was actually out there around that time but did not see any rattlers. I enjoyed the trail and look forward to riding it more and more. Couple spots where you can open it up a bit and smile big. Great job to everyone involved!!
