So I'm headed up toward the Bay Area on Wednesday for a 5 day mtb road trip. I'm doing the xc race (only because a friend asked me to do it with him, I have been over xc races since the 90s) in Annadel on the 17th and we plan on hitting up Camp Tamarancho in Fairfax and Soquel in Santa Cruz, but other than that our plans are wide open.

Any suggestions on must-do rides in the area?

Skeggs Point is a fun ride. Just know that the trail closes at sunset and the ranger will give you a ticket. Also they radar your speed, there is a speed limit of 15Mph.

Joaquin Miller Park in the Oakland hills is a fun too.

Hit up some locals while in Santa Cruz to have them show you the under the radar stuff around the university. Soquel is awesome, but it seems the secret-ish stuff is even more awesomer.

If you're looking for something a lot more mellow than Soquel while in Santa Cruz check out Wilder Ranch. My wife and I really liked that one for a "rest day" after blasting our legs the day before at Demo. Definitely not the same FR/DH scene as Demo but amazing beautiful singletrack through gianormous trees and some cool coastal views from the top.

1) Braille Trail (Soquel Demonstration Forest)
2) Wilder Ranch (Mountain Bike Mecca just north of Santa Cruz)
3) Skeggs Point/El Corte De Madera Preserve . Above Woodside, CA.

Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz is a beautiful XC trail system, sweet trails, awesome views and beach to forest riding. Ride up to the top 'twin gates' at Empire Grade and cross the road into upper UCSC and explore some more if you want more DH/FR style riding. Helps to find a local for that stuff too.
