Man! Thanks for the outpouring of support and good advice. This place rocks.
I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who is willing to pay this price for the love of biking. Everyone in my office thinks I'm insane.

Sneezing sucks, laughing sucks and in hindsight, watching Trailer Park Boys was not a good decision. I laughed so hard I couldn't sleep that night.

Evdog, that pretty much describes how it happened. I had a flicker of self-doubt at the last second and must have hit my brake. Next thing you know I was falling and kind of kept falling.

Moondogg, I didn't think I was that hurt either. I was mostly just pissed because I felt like I should have had it. Can you please send 406 a pm and tell him to clean my bike. He's getting a little touchy when I bring it up.

Yup, its a long way down from that spot to the bottom of widowmaker, especially when your bike is on end and you're upside down in mid air above it  . Didn't realize I'd broke anything either til I got back to the car....

You may not have hit the brake. This was my first time doing the full tour de noble and I was too tired to lift the front wheel out of that dip, and not going fast enough for momentum to roll me through it. Unfortunately though, I had just enough momentum to throw me overboard!

2 ribs cracked in one crash on Noble and one rib cracked in crash on anderson. Know your pain oh too well. Wish you a quick heal, but we all know it will take a few weeks.

Busted a rib about two years ago and it kept me out of commission for a solid 4 weeks. Then another 4 before I felt comfortable surfing again. I can completely remember the agonizing pain from coughing, sneezing and laughing.

About 6 weeks after a good rib injury, I was feeling back up to speed and thought I would try surfing on it, bad bad idea. re-aggravated it while paddling for a wave, made for a very painful paddle back in, and added a few extra weeks to the recovery

Pink eye and broken ribs, screw surfing.

My GF broke rib in a fall at work, and it took 6-8 weeks until she was feeling relatively pain free.

Not long ago, she fell off a poorly placed ladder.....onto the same rib. I dunno if it's gonna take longer to heal this time, but I hope not.

3 months after I had Shoulder reconstruction surgery, I fell while "demonstrating to some USCD riders how to "ride a log" in the 'Euc' grove trail system there. I landed squarely on the arm and shoulder I had repaired, and the force of the impact on the ground was great enough to crack a rib or two.

That took me a month before I felt strong enuf to hit the shoulder rehab exercises full strength. I mighta took a couple of extra pain pills pre-workout on account of that.

Anyways, those ribs are a thing of the past. Onward and Upward.

Hope you do the same, soon.

Im glad to see this thread, as I would imagine this would be a common injury? Ive only been riding for a few months and Im hating being grounded due to these ribs. It just makes me look forward to healing up so I can ride again. I want to ride sooner than the four weeks recommended. Then again- I dont want to re-injure myself. SOo, I guess I'll wait and see.

^^^ Sorry to hear. Yep, wait & see, be careful, balance common sense with the biking jones. I injured a rib or ribs in January. Didn't get it x-rayed since a worse injury was the priority. Surprisingly, every once in a while, in some stretched position, I still feel it. Much slower to heal as you get older. Good news: I don't feel it while riding!

I was riding with an EMT and he figured they were just bruised. I rode back to my car. You are right, didnt hurt that much while riding back down. :)

I've had bruised ribs I can't imagine broken ones!

When I bruised mine or when the trail attacked me I should say I was wearing a pressure suit and continued down hell raiser I felt it when I took off my suit. It's a scary experience not being able to breathe.

Being a woman with bruised ribs must be worse because you have to wear a bra, or do you have to( speaking in general terms)!!

Nonetheless find something constructive to do until you can get into the saddle!!

Anyone jump on a trainer while recovering from a broken rib? You dont have the upper body work that you do when on a trail.
