Some of you know I have worn out one of my hips and have been waiting for a new one for quite a while. Well; after unbeliveable amounts of Kaiser B.S. I am finally going in to get a brand new ceramic ball hip on Feb.14. I'm not too stoked about getting this done on Valentines Day, but I've been in pain for over a year now, so I'm ready to make this happen, no matter when it has to happen. I am stoked that I'll be able to get back on my Mt. Bike I've missed it a bunch. Hopefully I'll be back on the trails sometime mid to late March.
See Ya's Soon

Good luck! Hope the operation goes perfectly, you heal fast, and are back riding as soon as safely possible. See you on the trails.

good luck, you'll be back on the bike in no time!

a coworker just got his hip replaced and was back at work in like under a week. we all assumed he'd be out for a month, but he was back and walking around in no time

I can't imagine a more perfect day than Valentines. "Sorry honey, I wasn't able to overpay for flowers -- too busy getting a hip replaced."

I had my pre Op consult with the Ortho Surgeon yesterday. He says the procedure only takes 45 Mins. from open to close. That makes me even more disappointed in Kaiser, I’ve been limping around like Festus from the old Gunsmoke T.V. show for 4 ½ months, not to mention the pain and loss of work, for a procedure that only takes 45 Mins. ? I still can’t figure that out. Any way the operation will take place @ Sharp Hospital in Coronado, on Thursday. I should be home Saturday. I can’t wait to get better and get back on my bikes.

Hey Chuck, how about some fish tacos? Friday is meatless Friday, I'll be in your neck of the woods.

Healing vibes atcha.

Not only am I surprised at how short the procedure is, but also curious why they keep you in the hospital for a couple of days. Is it so you can get some initial assisted rehab?

The medical care delivery system here is wacky, glad to hear you are getting what you need. Heal well and visualizing your bike rides as you recover will make them happen sooner!

I think the Hospital stay is, one day to recover, and one day to be sure that I'm not at risk of falling down on the new hip. But, I'm not a doctor, I'm just going to do what they tell me. And they are telling me two maybe three days.
The worst part is that back in Oct of 2011 the Ortho Doc, said I was too young for a hip replacement and I should try to tough it out for as long as I could., Which was just about a year. A year of ever increasing pain, when I got to the point of not being able to take the pain any longer I went back to the Doctor and said lets do this he then informed me that there was a 3 to 4 month waiting list to get on the O.R. table. Then after the 4 month date came and went Kaiser said it was going to be another month. So I waited for the Surgeon all that time then last week I was re-assigned to a different guy with a shorter lead time. I feel like I have just wasted all that time.

I feel for you man. I have a torn labrum and impingement in my right hip. I can't imagine how you put up with the pain of a completely shot hip so long.

Hope you're surgery goes well and you heal fast.
