I've been shopping around for a couple of road bikes for the wife and I. while at a store Hi tech Bikes, i ran in to a lady that is selling her road bike because now wants a triathlon specific bike. it is a 2010 Orbea Dama. it was purchased last year and it has full ultegra on the bike with the maintenance package from Hitech bikes. the bike is the size for my wife but i just wanted your opinion on how much would be a fair price to pay. I'm still looking for a bike for me currently looking at a Fuji bike with 105 components for $1400. any suggestions on sales or good bike packages youve seen around? budget is around 3k for both bikes. |

I would probably stay away from a triathlon specific bike. They are only really good for that purpose. If you want a good deal on a Fuji then go to performance. I do believe they have a 2010 Fuji roubaix carbon bike with 105 for like a grand. That is a really good deal. If you are thinking about a trek and I can ask my Gfriend what kind of deals you can get as she works at the north county trek super store. You will probably pay a little more for a trek. One thing you have to do if you have very limited experience with road bikes is get a proper fit. I know the trek super stores do it for free with a bike purchase and my gfriend is certified to bike fit. Don't know if performance does it. It will make a world of difference with how much you will enjoy the ride. |

Test ride as many bikes as you can. Ride the high end and ride the low end bikes. As you ride and visit other local shops, you can sort through the "info" that certain sales people will give you. In my experience, a $1200 bike that is tuned correctly from an experienced mechanic will shift as nice as the $5000 bike slapped together by a high volume chain store. Ive had good experiences at Pacific Coast Cycles in Oceanside, Ride in Encinitas, or Trek in North County or Clairmont. Good Luck! Watch out for those cars. |

I am more of a roadie than a dirtie, and I have to say I love Orbea. I think they make some of the best riding bikes out there. Depending on condition and mileage, a good place to start on a one year old bike would be 50% of the purchase price. I don't know the value off the top of my head for that specific bike, but I don't think I'd go much over 50% of price paid. If the bike is the right size, and it's in good condition, an Orbea with Ultegra is an incredible bike sure to make the rider happy! Good luck. |
