Today I had my very first wreck on the road bike, after thousands of miles. 20 mph into a right hand turn, front wheel goes instantly flat. I felt it happen but was going to fast to counter it. Down I went, fast. It hurt like hell, all I can say is earth is more forgiving that pavement. Luckily I didn't take any of the other riders (15 today) I have road rash that runs from my shoulder to my hip and ass. (No pic of ass/hip.)

Things like this make me miss riding the dirt. I am more pissed that I scratched up my new bike but oh well. It won't slow me down or keep me from hitting it had.

Scratched up brake levers, RD and seat. Frame is OK.

I love going crazy fast on my road bike, last weekend 45 mph bombing Kings Canyon.

damn, glad your okay man! Can't say I know how it feels to fall from a road bike. I guess my biggest fear wouldn't be the pavement; it would be old granny pull out in front of me as I was doing 45 down that hill

Thanks for the post! ... chk out a lil flesh wound of my own :D

Nasty! How far did you slide?

It felt like forever, but it was probably only a few feet. I laugh about my reaction now, I cared less about myself and more about my bike. I must have looked like one of those TDF riders with a torn kit and dirty continuing my ride.

Road rash is not sexy at all. My wife makes me wrap all wounds before going to bed (can't stain her expensive sheets ya' know.)
I have never been a great pavement decender (strange cause' I'm a good Super D rider...) My practice bomber runs down Montezuma could end up tragic...
Lets just not go there.

Heal fast....go fast.

Ugh, heal fast.

I hit a chunk of asphalt and went OTB on Friars Rd many years ago during a dawn commute to work. I was probably going 20 mph. The road rash wasn't too terrible but I was too sore to ride home that evening (my boss lived nearby and had a pickup truck).
