Thanks for posting! There is a lifetime worth of stuff to explore up there. They just opened some PCT to bikes at packer saddle too. PCT now goes through the lakes basin instead. Was up in the area for Labor day. I'll post a TR when I get some time. |

I'll look for some pics to post, but yeah, that summed up the highlights. Very nice time. It got a little cooler than my normal June/July experience after Harley and Lisa left, toward the end of the trip, so I think I'll stick to the late Spring, early Summer schedule in the future. Plus the fishing was lousy. I've never been to Mammoth, and Harley had never been here. I was really hoping that Harley would give me the thumbs up on this area over Mammoth, to make me feel better about the extra 5 hours there and back I've been making on each trip. Thankfully he did. FYI, be sure to double-check your suspension PSI when moving up in elevation. I really did not enjoy Hough as much as I expected. Part of it was the exposure on trails that aren't 'cupped' like D-ville is. The other, as I found out later, was that I had a lot of extra PSI in my fork that had bled into the other stanchion. After letting all air out, the fork was still 2 inches 'at attention'. Harley had the know-how to push a zip tie into the right stanchion to release all that extra air. Yay! New buttery fork again! Oh yeah, and the last reason was because I couldn't shake that fucking guy behind me! Funny aside that got a big ol' guffaw out of me. Post ride, we dipped into the cold as hell swimming hole at the bottom of the ride. I stripped down to my chamois and braved the chill (barely). Afterward, I stripped off the chamois and put my riding shorts back on, and threw the chamois on the bike rack. Another beer and it was time to go. Harley starts loading his bike, sees some 'kit' on the rack, grabs it, and damn near pukes as he chucks my cold wet chamois away from him as fast as humanely possible. Yuck! I didn't even want to touch that thing. On to D-Ville. It also happens to be my favorite trail. It was gratifying to hear a 35 year veteran echo that sentiment. Oh, and in reference to DirtRider, yep, it was all vegetarian meals, with the exception of some recently caught yellowtail that we schlepped up there. Harley and Lisa brought the most schizznetiest dry rub (with curry and herbs) that we sprinkled all over the fish pre-BBQ. Yummy! Too many beers, lot's of laughs, good conversations, and just plain ol' good times. |

Awesome TR, thanks to both Big Clyde and Avidtest for posting it up. I really liked all the pics of Avidtest's dog! Is that a golden retriever? |
