Hello all. I am in the process of selling my Giant Glory 1. It is on the heavy side for me. I am looking to replace it with something a little more enduro or cross country. I love riding downhill but I want to be able to make it to the top of the trail. I am also on a budget. There are 2 bikes I am looking at for $600. One is a 2001 Santa Cruz heckler https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2180396/ The second one is a 2004 stump jumper with fox front and rear https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik/6188931232.html I don't know which would be better for my riding. I love the hecker frame and I am pretty sure it is lighter and if i replace the coil with an air shock it would be a sweet ride im sure. The specialised is a bit newer and already has the fox front and rear. Please Help. Thank you all.

What's your max budget? Not to dissuade you (well maybe a little), but although those were once good bikes, they aren't going to ride anything like a modern geometry mountain bike. Mountain bike years are similar to dog years (every real year is like aging 7 years).

Others here can speak more on it, but I'd also think parts availability may be a problem as things fail - and they will.

If budget is a problem now, but you have an opportunity to save up for something more modern and capable, I'd strongly consider it.

I agree with Shannon, maybe save up
some money for a larger budget.
I had that Heckler, sold to a friend years ago,
he still rides it. That bikes only worth $300.
I think you would be disappointed going from
the Giant to either one of those bikes, especially downhill.
I think for $1000 you could pick up a pretty nice 26 inch
bike that would fit your needs.

Good luck!

Awesome, Thank you all for the advice. Ill save some bucks after I sell the Giant (I really don't want to but I don't live near ski lifts) and save for something a bit better and suited for my needs.
