I bought a 'very lightly' used s.i.r. 9 (NINER hardtail) intending to use it specifically for bikepacking. It currently has 1.75" road tires on it but can accommodate up to 29x2.2 tires. The Stan's NoTube wheelset is sweet. I was given a Kenda Nevagal tubeless ready tire with it. I intend to stay tubeless.

I am looking for tire combination suggestions. I will be doing most of my bikepacking with OldDog and Valley Boy. There will probably be a fair amount of sand riding. I've not ridden sand in six years and my MTB is equipped for the Ventura county soil conditions (somewhat similar to Calavera with less clay content).

Suggestions for front/rear tire combinations?

BTW: my MTB, Touring and Bikepacking are all 29'ers.

Go as fat as you can fit on those tires!

Agree with Dan especially if sand is in your future. For bikepacking you'll have more weight on the bike than normal. IMO it is worth it to go with heavier tires that have stronger side walls. You don't want to be pushing a loaded bike out with a sidewall tear.

Kind of what I was thinking, but I did not consider the increased weight. I knew with 500 years + experience of this group I would get valuable advice.

Thanks evedog and OldDogDan
