Hey all, The current administration is expanding our tariffs against China by including bicycle components. Here are a couple of articles on it: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/25-percen ... ustry.html https://www.pinkbike.com/news/bike-indu ... -2018.html In addition, I just received a spam email from Ride Cyclery saying that a 25% tariff on E-Bikes will be put into effect over the next few weeks. I know most of us don't ride E-bikes, but this tariff could pretty quickly expand to a lot of other bike parts. Does anybody know anything about this? thanks, Mike (Let's keep things non-political, shall we? ) |

I don't buy into paranoia so you let me know when the price of bikes actually goes up. I wonder if Ride would even know since they charge full rack retail all the time anyway. If things do actually go haywire, I suggest you start buying your bike parts from overseas shops which can save you a bunch of $$ either way. |

Don't most components come from Taiwan? |

Evdog pointed out Taiwan is the second largest supplier. If these tariffs keep impacting China, Id imagine more business will move to Taiwan. Or other countries that are building infrastructure to mass produce precision engineering products. |

I didn't know until the last couple of years, but the relationship between China & Taiwan isn't the best since China thinks Taiwan should be part of China. There's some local (over there) complexities that affect the whole trade tariffs. I think it will all play out in our favor but there might be some hardship in the short term. |

Taiwan and China REALLY don't like each other. Taiwan also claims a few small islands between them and China, which it stations troops on. Almost every year it's common to lose one or two soldiers to shelling from the mainland. |
