Ozzer - Do I need to "bed" the brakes again after I clean and sand them? Also, I am for sure a bad braker... you can call me Sir Drags-a-lot. I am trying to get better on that, and thank you for the tips on pulsing the brake. In the meantime, would going to larger rotors (e.g. 180 to 203) help dissipate the heat? I'm on a 27.5 bike and not exactly a big dude, as you know. I don't mind dropping a few bucks on the problem (i.e. new rotor + spacer) but upgrading my entire braking system wasn't in the plan.

thanks!

Nope. Your braking surfaces are already scoured and have grooves by now. What you're removing are just materials transferred from the pads and other "coating" on the rotor surface (both sides).

I think you'll be fine with 180. Try consciously to cut back on long sustained braking (white knuckle/death grip braking).

Alright, did the recommended work per Ozzer's post. I am feeling good about it. Will see how it goes on the trail.

I bought a (gasp) road bike recently that had disc brakes with weird, heavy looking (full circle of metal look) rotors, Shimano Ice tech. On closer inspection, they had a very thin and obviously aero engineered aluminum flange/fins going inward to the hub from the business end of the rotor. On road disc systems they use a 4 bolt system.. Regardless, this stuff works very well. I rode along road descent over 37 miles and they held up great.

There are mtb versions fwiw.

Lots of good advice above!

Everyone on here is so nice nowadays...

Brake less! Stop braking!

^^^Best advice I have found and also the most hard to follow. Easier to do when someone is on your rear wheel yelling at you that they'll sodomize you if they catch you. Won't forget going down Hellrazor with Ozzer, Avidtest, Palomo and the above, alleged crazy man.
