A late, short, quick ride out at Hodges this evening, a tarantula near the pump station. |

That Bullfrog was the size of a double whopper if you doubled it, quadrawhopper? And of course a not very happy rattler, jeez those things hate mtbrs, no respect. Nice frog. The biggest frog I ever caught was at Duck Pond, formerly known as Frog Pond, in LPQ. On a night ride. I was able to grab him where he sat and I really wish I had my buddy take a pic of this guy. I constantly regarded him a the King of the Frogs. His body stretched longer than my hand and forearm. I put him back on the shoreline mud and he effortlessly sprung a good 10', it seemed, into the water. Impressive to us two older frog-hunters! |

Not captured on a trail ride, but these little (big) bright green Japanese Beetles have beeen out in full force around the house over the last few weeks. Last weekend my brother and sister-in-law brought their kids over. I'd caught one of the little guys and tied some floss around it's leg for the kids to play around with. Here's the discussion that ensued: Bro-in-law: What is that a june bug? Me: No it's a Japanese beetle. Bro: Oh yeah; Japanese beagle. Me: Wait. What? I think you just said 'Japanese beagle'? Bro: What? No I didn't. Japanese beagle. Me: Ha. Dude. You just said it again.. Bro: What? Japanese beagle? Me: ...beetle... Bro: Right. Beagle. Japanese beagle. Me: Haha, you're messing with me bro. Beetle. Bro: Oh! Yeah. Beetle. Japanese beagle. It felt like a real-life Abbot and Costello episode. He was definitely short-circuiting. But now, I'm happy to share with you... the Japanese Beagle.... |

This is an internet photo of a western yellow-bellied racer. I saw one today crossing the trail but it was too fast to get a photo. Cool looking snake. Attachment:
