Saw this little critter which I think is a quail laying in the middle of the trail during the night ride tonight. He was the 5th one in about 1 mile that was laying right in the trail. |

^^^ ...or in the my experience, the same one that has flown up the trail and landed four times - they don't seem to be the smartest birds. |

^^^ Common Poorwill, a close relative of the Nighthawk. First thing you see on a night ride are its orange eyes shining at you from the middle of the trail. The only place I ever saw them was on night rides in PQ and DMM. http://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/common-poorwill |
