Hi all, So here's the deal. I have a mostly DH/DJ/BMX background and I want to get a fairly good pedaling bike for trail/enduro / super D type stuff. I recently lost my job and I'm going to winter it at my cabin in Big Bear. So moneys is kinda tight so i'd like to keep it to around $2k. I'm primarly looking to get a frame, probably a lightly used one , and build from there with used parts and dealer hook-ups. I'm definatley going either 29er or 650b but used 29er frames seem more abundant so thats what I'll probably get. So far the main contenders in order of want are: Intense Tracer 29 or 27.5 Giant Trance X 29 Turner Sultan Specialized Stumpjumper evo FSR 29 Coming from a DH rig I can't handle too steep of a head tube angle, it will mess with my head. Personal preference is a bottom bracket that's fairly low. What do you all think? This is going to be a bike that is going to be strictly trail and maybe enduro/super D race. I think I'm going to go 1x10 , 140 mm fork(prob fox 34) and a cheap pair of hoops to get me rolling( like canfields or some pull offs) .Any suggestions or advice will be apprieciated. |

You should look at the Santa Cruz Tallboy LT. Similar to the Intense with a slacker head angle. |

I know of a Turner Burner Frame and Fox 34 fork that is going up for sale soon. It is a medium. |

This time of year there's a lot out there, what size frame do you ride or how tall are you? |

I really appreciate the climbing efficiency of the switch tech, so I would suggest throwing your leg over a SB95 if you have connections in the industry for a shop demo somewhere. Although I have the 26 variation, I find the climbing efficient and then when pointed downhill, it inspires confidence that has gotten me into a few too many "oh shit" moments that I care to count. Hope this helps and doesn't add to your dilemma. If you ride a medium, you can take my bike for a spin up a hill somewhere to check it out for yourself. |
