Where would you put the bikes in the trailer? Most trailers I've seen are designed to maximize the living space. There's no dirty storage area (exception: toy hauler). Are you going to put your muddy dirty bikes in the middle of your living room or kitchen?

Yes - dirty bikes go in the trailer. I expect there will be enough room. Not really any difference putting them in a trailer vs. a van except that I can leave them behind, locked in the trailer if I feel like going somewhere in the truck. I suppose I could even travel that way.

I really like the van idea but I personally don't have the place to park one at this time.

Couldn't you just park it in the driveway or on the street? I think one of the advantages of the van is that you can park them most places you can park a car.

I could put it fills the driveway and makes getting items out of the back yard a pain, having to move it. My sons buddy has a sprinter that they have done work on over here. Their pretty big.
Years ago, I parked my 27 FT Tool truck here and that really made the neighbors happy

I'm amazed at the lack of new trucks for sale. Most of the dealers are sold out and nothing new dropping

I ended up installing a hitch on the rear bumper of my trailer and hang my bike rack off that. We have used it a few times. I keep a lock on the bikes while they are in the rack and have not had issues with theft, but I have not put my expensive MTB on that rack, just our beach cruisers and kids bikes.

I tend to be super paranoid about bikes on the rack when traveling and stopping for food and yes I am that guy that either sits where I can watch the bikes while eating, or I get my food to go and sit with the vehicle. Once we are at the campground I keep the lock on the bikes unless I am using them. If someone is going to cruise campgrounds looking for things to steal my hope is they will go for the things not locked up and easier to grab. But in all my years camping I have never had anything stolen from a campsite, nor have I heard of things being stolen from a campsite. And we leave tents up with clothes and backpacks and other items inside them totally unsecured.

It would be great to know some alternate spots to camp. I've never like the condo camping in CA with sites 30 feet away from each other.

Bring an old blanket or sleeping bag laid on the bed for the bikes.
To save a spot I have left as little as a chair and honor the same. You can pitch a tent or ground covering. I set up a lot more with the trailer maybe an hour. With a van I keep it down to five minutes now. I still have an old trailer but if I get a newer one it would be a fiberglass egg.

It’s easy to pull over stop for lunch cook in the van go to sleep without ever getting out of the vehicle.

I'm going this route soon Tom. Once we get our use out of the Minnie Winnie and the kids are grown and out there I'm van life all the way.

UPDATE: I camped at mt laguna this weekend and there is some dispersed camping on Kitchen Creek Road off Sunrise Highway. Just no camp fires allowed, propane stoves only.

I have been hiding for more than than the last five months. I got a new one two years ago.
Flat pedals and cable brakes are the safest route
It’s nice to see the Milky Way

Pine Creek Road still has dispersed camping, always see trailers near the top.
