I need to choose between an old pack I had saved, or a new one I found at a yard sale. Any input or make me feel better on the trail thank you in advance.

"Backpacks" are so 2019. It's all about the lumbar/waist/hip pack nowadays. I personally recommend the Dakine models. https://www.dakine.com/collections/back ... 6351558736 |

I always thought I needed tons of water and thought I drank a lot until I went to Greer and Calavera a couple of times where I forgot my Osprey 'hydration' pack. I realized I didn't need to drink that much and bought the Dakine 2L pack that holds a single water bottle. It's all I need locally. I've worn my full size pack maybe 3-4 times in 2020 and two of those were on all day shuttle rides. Now for the preaching part.....once you try it, you won't go back. Not having something on your back is a game changer. I resisted trying it but I'm glad I did. |

Just messing. I have a Bontrager pack, holds one bottle and enough tools. Way more comfy than a Camel.

The only time I use the Camel Pack is when I ride with Shannon. He’s high maintenance!

Whichever is most comfy Tom; that's the one you should use. But yes, fanny packs, er, hip packs are liberating. Dump the shoulder pack and be hip. Harley, you definitely need to keep that shoulder pack stocked and ready to roll - bug out style. We will ride together again! |

The Bontrager has good reviews, but I always figured that having a relatively hard water bottle pressed against my spine could result in bad news in a bad crash. Or maybe I'm the only one who worries about such things? |

The built-in Water Bag suspension device has saved my back from serious injury on multiple occasions. I will never ride without one. |

Looks nice too. I have the Dakine 5L and it's definitely not perfect for people with a 36" waist as the hose is barely long enough to wrap around to the mandatory magnet position. It would be nice if you could move it. The waist straps are always loosening up little by little as well and it eventually sags so low it gets caught below my seat when I drop it on sketchy terrain.
