This photograph speaks to me of the "shadows and traces" people leave on us.

Jane,

Thanks for my friend, Dan.

Wow. Thank you so much. That was a really good conversation we had after our rides yesterday.

I owe a better explanation to the half a dozen or so Dirt Treaders who post regularly. We still like this forum, where we keep up the tradition of using screen names and disliking that newfangled social media where everyone else went. I ran into Spotter yesterday and we shared some beers and he brought up the “What are you Listening to” thread. It often happens, but not always, that my bike, music, and drinking posts share a common theme. I had a beer photo with candles and flowers, and three music posts in a row that were highly personal: Sister Morphine, I Shall be Released, and Sweet Jane. Well, I’ve been off work the last two weeks taking care of my mom, who passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday night. Yesterday was my first dirt church ride in a while. I told Spotter (okay, Roger...) that I was wondering about posting this. Maybe in Hurt Locker as A Profound Sense of Loss. Anyway, that’s what this is about. I know that many here have been through a similar loss or worse. Thinking here of Not Fast, and also of Belizean, who lost his brother this past week. Not really looking for sympathy, but just want to share with what has become a small and pretty close community of friends since the esteemed Ld00d (okay, Brian...) created DT over a decade ago, and continues to keep it alive. Thanks all.

Hey, I’m keeping mine a secret for sure! And thanks El Dooderino and all.

Appreciate the explanation and more importantly, deep condolences for your loss Dan (ok, OldDogDan). (even during the pain, we can sometimes crinkle a smile).

I always enjoyed your short tales of movie nights with mom.

Deepest condolences OldDog... may your mom rest in peace, and may your actual name never be known.
