Well, partly true. The chain stay padding and lever grip tape tricks are pretty common. The only one that I find new and interesting is Minaar’s mixed pads idea. They would probably wear really unevenly though, would need to keep an eye on that.

The amount of benefit derived from some of these 'tricks' are akin to mice-nuts, i.e., pretty small. Grip taped brake levers? I cannot think of a time when my finger slipped off a lever. Although I've had plenty of bushes inadvertently apply my brakes for me. Maybe some brake lever guards!

Gotta say; if I weren't so zen, the dual resin pad thing would probably just piss me off...

Not quite custom, but I used to run road cassettes and road derailler on my DH bike back in the day, especially during Whistler season. The mountain deraillers didn't seem to hold up whereas the Shimano 105 was all metal and had a really stiff spring, so it lasted way longer. Road cassette played well with the road D and had better gearing as long as there was no climbing.

“Pro tip: grip tape on levers”

So when I got a new bike several months ago it had a dropper lever with a really long throw and occasionally my thumb would slip off at the end of the travel. So I remembered the pro tip and put a little piece of grip tape on it. Works great! Not one slip since.

Today I’m looking at my otherwise perfectly good gloves with a hole worn thru the thumb….
Shit! The pros get their gloves for free.

These probably are more appropriate for dropbars but are also made for mtb. Like mini-bar ends I suppose. They work very well on drop bars. I have them and like them very much.

A number of bikepack racers were using them in the SC400 for alternate rest positions. A few speed demons even use aero bars.
