not exactly garage, but here goes-

been using skate shoes or old 5.10's BA51C or 5.10 spitfires and the soles are too flexible. the 5.10 impacts are stiffer. without going the whole ($$$) ortho route, any ideas how to stiffen up the soles a bit? and no, viagra did not work.

I think you can buy off the shelf plastic orthotics that would stiffen them. I used to put those in my old rock climbing shoes to stiffen them up for long bouts of standing in etriers when aid climbing.

Edit: something like this http://www.spenco.com/product.aspx?ProdId=57&catid=2&cid=#.UiphMaa9LCQ but those aren't cheap. Probably best to just save up for new shoes.

I suppose if you wanted to spend some time to experiment and save some bucks, you could cut a piece of stiff plastic or aluminum to fit. Or maybe DWill has some spare carbon fiber.
