Yeah I am. The last set I built was super strong and true. I already ran into my first problem for this set. The spoke calculator I used originally had me order the wrong spoke length. I'm going to have to find the correct size today if I want the bike out on the trails tomorrow.
It takes me about an hour to build a set of wheels.

I guess I can make a youtube video on how to build wheels. Everything that I have seen online build wheels the complicated way, and often everything ends up in a mess. I do have two wheels that need to be rebuilt, but not until I get the money for new rims. So, once I buy that stuff I can have you build those for me while I supervise and guide you.

I bet we could get a few others that wanted to learn as well. Make it the DT wheel building day.

Yeah, we could have a DT wheel building day where everyone brings in a wheel and we work on it together. They can bring any old wheel, we'll take it apart and then put them back together. I'll post it up soon for a day that I'm free.

I have a TS-2 in need of a rebuild. If I can get that done before your clinic, I'd be happy to loan it for your class.

Actually, we have just the thing. I have a set of good wheels, and Mitch has wheels with good hubs but bad rims. I'm pretty sure new spokes are needed because the hub flange diameters don't match, and the rim erd is different as well. Maybe you could help us figure out the spoke size needed, and we could put them together for him?

Yeah, that sounds good. Let me know what hubs he has, and if he doesn't know, we can measure it and find out. If you know what hubs you have and what rims you want, we can use a spoke calculator to figure out what spoke length is needed.
If the hub specs cannot be found, we can measure it to calculate the spoke length.

So what hubs are going to be used for the wheel?
What rims will be used for the wheel.

The hubs are Hope and the rims are bontrager with an ERD of 535.

This is the webpage I use for the hope hubs to calculate spoke length.

http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/spokecalc/

Choose your hub under the "Hubs" tab,

"Rim dia" box enter 535,
"Offset" zero,
"spokes" 32.

If you are doing a 3X pattern with 32 spokes, then you need size 258mm spokes. 3X is the most common spoke pattern, and that is what I use.

I was looking at your spokes and noticed they overlapped.
Is the 3X noting that the spokes overlap three times? That would give it strength eh?
I seem to remember that back in the moto days

Yes, the 3X is overlapping 3 times. 3X is stronger than 2X, which is stronger than 1X (The late Sheldon Brown)
