I know I read somewhere that Ldood did not want to make this a SD specific site, but I think it would really help with more traffic and more people contributing to it. I was out at Mission Trails today and ran into one dude from Vista who was looking for Sycamore, and while waiting for my buddy to show up saw 3 or 4 people that were doing an organized ride cause they came up and asked if I was there for the 830 ride. I was not in a very sociable mood so I didnt ask what site they were from or direct them here. Eavesdropping on their conversation I heard one guy talk about how hard it is to find someone to ride with, he didnt want to ride alone anymore after that mountain lion deer kill over at Sycamore. They were pedaling away and my buddy was showing up and yeah those are my two excuses for not spreading the good word. Afterwards I thought about how I should have mentioned it.

Ok, as for my suggestion after you have read that long somewhat pointless story. Why not gear the site up as "The San Diego mountain biking website" ? I mean thats the way it is turning out and if it was labeled as that I think we would get alot more SD peeps popping up over here. I see "hi im new from SD" posts all the time over on that other site, lets make it easier for SD people to find this place in a search, you know what I mean?

Thoughts? If Im just blowing smoke out my rear tell me. I do that quite often

Try STR or SDT. There's a reason why this site is different.

The best way for this site to come up on a search for "San Diego mountain biking website" is for it to be linked elsewhere as a "San Diego mountain biking website". The mega tags include San Diego in addition to southern California, but afaik, Google ignores these tags now. Other sites such as STR and MTBR show up higher in searches because 1. they've been around longer and 2. they make an extra effort for visibility so they can make a buck off of advertising.

Word of mouth is working pretty well for the site, and I've been blown away at how well it's grown. A lot of that is due to our ambassadors (e.g. RHS) who have been actively spreading the good word of DT. I don't think you should feel like you have to say anything to anyone about DT though.

The Sloth rides a lot of places but Calavaras is not one of them. That's because Calavaras is a county in in Northern California and Calavera is in Carlsbad California. It would be kind of difficult to do our Wednesday lunch rides in Calavaras, I don't think Big Clydes boss would let him that long of a lunch break?

And Wirk! He mentions DT to every rider we meet on the trail and at our last ride he was handing out the DT business cards! I think of him as the unofficial DT "PR" guy.

Hey, if you're going to pick on the Dood's spelling, at least get yours right! The county in California, and Mark Twain's story, is Calaveras, not Calavaras. Yes, the lake and hill are named Calavera (spanish "skull"), but for at least the last forty years that I've ridden there, the locals called the area "Calaveras". Maybe we're confused because it does have frogs...? Once it got some official status, efforts to save it, and newspaper stories, the correct map name became common.
