We all do it most of the time and for me it’s about 90% of my riding. In my travels I find myself riding all over So.Cal at all times of the day or night by myself.
Something happened yesterday that has me rethinking this…

During yesterday mornings ride I was going down this off the grid single track when I hit some wires placed across the trail. It might have been placed there by someone but it could have been leftover construction waste. Not sure at this time but it caught my left pedal stopping me causing to fall forward and then backwards into a small ditch. Must have landed funky and did some damage to my left ankle/ foot area I thought at the time. Wasn’t able to put any weight on it at all and had a heck of a time just getting up & out to a standing position. Being by myself it was up to me to get to the road which was pretty close thankfully.
Called my loving wife and met her at the road to head home & heal up. I think the ankle is a bit swollen but the issue is the tendon on the backside of the left leg. Did the old R.I.C.E. most of yesterday which really helped it. This morning it’s still very tight but I can hobble around on it.

Situations like this have always been in my head while riding and I’ve definitely mellowed out (not that a 61 yr old can get too rad if I wanted to). I think I’ll be looking to post up rides more and go to areas where many others will be at. It’s always fun to go on those Solo rides but just try not to be the only sole out there when you are forgetting about life. Keeping riding but be safe when pedaling your passion

Glad it was not worse and you were able to self-rescue. Riding solo has its risks but also its rewards. I had to peel off a group ride today because I was not feeling well. I was perfectly okay with going back solo, but my friend Dale said no way, and I’m glad he did. Heal up!

I usually ride solo during the week because all my normal riding buddies have real jobs. I always let my wife know where I'm going (my friends all know my "normal" route at the local places) and text her when I'm done. I've started riding up in Murrieta once a week now (replacing Hodges and Daley for the most part) and stay off Insidious (mucho potential to get hurt) and Rabbit Hole (too far in the back and sees few riders to find me). To me, it's always more fun to ride with friends. I like chatting during the climbs but usually listen to music if I'm solo.

Actually heading out solo on a 3 day trip to Hurricane next weekend. This will be a 1st for me but I just get so bored riding local and have to get on some quality trails to save my sanity.

I hear you Mike, riding solo has it's advantages and fears. However you get moving on the bike, it's always better with a crew, unless you have that solo ride where you slow down enough to see things and think, and clearly.

95% + of my riding is solo and OldAndSlow. At 68, originally taking up biking in 2008, I have an unusual heart condition, the doctors are not worried about it but it limits my performance. My heart rate will increase to up 50 bpm above recommended max in a matter of 5-10 seconds and 80 bpm above current bpm under due to exertion shutting me down. On any given ride my avg heart rate is above max. I ride with a heart rate monitor and I can go a good distance at an elevated heart rate so climbs can be very, very slow. Actually it does not matter whether I ride or walk, the heart rate increases. Sometimes walking is faster. Recovery is fast.
Lisa worries about my solo riding. I tell here the MTB patrol is out and the area is full of riders if there is an issue. This may not be the truth especially on night rides. I rocked climbed for 30 years and this is the most dangerous sport I have ever engaged in. As OldDogDan says (paraphrase) "yeah, you may break something, but death is unlikely".
Maybe... Heal fast cause I'm healing from my latest crash also.
