I was in New York all week dreaming about nightrides and any of the nice weekend epics that went down without me. By Saturday I was so desperate that I started looking online for riding opportunities in Manhattan. So I rented a bike at this place close to 42nd Street at the Hudson River:

Going North I was wondering if I would see only this type of multi-user trail

Fortunately glimmers of hope soon appeared

North of the George Washington Bridge things got more gnarly :)

After some extra searching and a little road and traffic I finally hit the real thing

Even some builders in Manhattan :)

Following some fun on here I continued on the other trails in Highbridge Park. Loose leaves on the trail make for a whole new variant of the traction problem, or was it just the skinny tires on the bike :)

Did not notice hitting anything, but when pedaling backwards to get the cranks in position for that next hill some really ugly sound emerged
and about 7 miles back to the 'trail head' (from the blue dot in the top right almost to the Holland Tunnel at the bottom left)

Have to say, I am happy that my first broken derailleur happened with public transport options for the solo shuttle back :)

Back at the rental place I got an exchange bike and had enough time to get the south end of Manhattan to take in this familiar view

Overall, a fun ride - not epic by any stretch of imagination, but pretty good considering I never left Manhattan and certainly a decent fix for my cravings :)

That's cool. I love finding urban trails.

very cool, love the sunset photo, thanks for the tr. Does every city but San Diego have a bike park!?

I read about Highbridge Park recently in Bicycling magazine. I've attached a link for you exclusively dirt types who probably don't subscribe. Man, talk about dedicated advocacy . . . .

Nice and unique TR. There is always traction issues with those leaves even with a fat tire.

What's all important is that you got your fix anyhow.

Good TR  , do you have a photo showing the text on the Bike Park sign, I would like to pass it along to San Diego P&R and the rangers at MTRP.

here you go - hope the resolution is good enough (if not, pm me and I can send original by e-mail, or somebody explain to me how I can upload high-res images to this site). Also curious how to upload more than 6 images at a time...
