FYI - Just heard about this. Don't know the shop, don't know if the event is City-approved. A non-DT friend told me about it and said he likes the shop, located in Bonsall.

Edit: updated on 1/23/15 -

From Pivot Cycles:

Lean and Mean Demo in Oceanside moved to the Lean and Mean parking lot. Come see us at 5519 Mission Rd. Bonsall, CA 92003

I really like my bike. My only concern about going to a Pivot demo at Calavera, I know the best fireroads to take it on to compare to my wonderful bike. What if I really like the Pivot, what if it descends that one rocky fireroad better than my beloved bike, what if it climbs that other more boringer fireroad better? Well then I'll end up being consumed and obsessed with a bike that I wasnt consumed and obsessed with beforehand. I know me and I dont want to subject myself nor my wife to yet another obsession...ugh, Demo day at Calavera, on worthy steeds nonetheless.
Dangit, now I cant stop thinking about it, Thanks Dan.

I already have that obsession along with too many others. Being a very fat old man that's slower than molasses, what if this bike makes me faster, builds more confidence on downhills, soaks up the bumps better? Then I'm in real trouble. The obsession might spin outta control and need medical attention.
What if I spend 6K and I'm still the fat old man, on and off the trails? That's what I spent on my sons first car  Do I go and take the risk? I don't think I should take the chance. Maybe just see if this obsession fads over time...

BTW- What the difference between a Pivot Demo day and morning wood?...........The Bike

I'll see you there Pete

My bank account, my wallet, my kids feelings, my wifes sanity as I just wont stop going on and on and on about, my chances for obsessing over other things, Im only allowed to obsess on one thing at a time. I need a new fork instead, luckily I havent obsessed on that big problem yet, uh oh, now Im thinkin' about it, ya know, Chain Reaction has my kinda forks for less than $700.00, shipping is free if I spend over $99.00. I would like to buy new brake pads for my truck, if the price is right maybe some vented rotors too. Ugh, I need to renew my license but before that I need to take a course for my continuing education. I need a new home theater receiver, because I am the way I am, an average $500.00 Onkyo is totally unacceptable, its gotta be a NAD, Marantz, Yamaha or Denon, no thank on the Harmon Kardin. I need a new flat screen TV, I need to make and set-up a proper drip irrigation system in my backyard for my pepper plants, I need a new couch, my truck needs new front tires....Once every couple times a year I test drive this certain sports car I want, been wantin it for over 5 years badly. Sue puta up with that obsession, still, this one never goes away, its always there.
I guess riding a fancy new Pivot has little to no consequences. I'll either add it to the list of things I "need" and obsess over it, or I'll figure out a way to get one thus delaying all the other things I need or "need".

But a new bike will make you lighter, faster and healthier. Lighter cause you have that much less money, faster cause you need to stay far ahead of Sue to keep her from kicking your ass, and healthier, because, well you'll be out riding more.

I don't need a new bike yet. But my fear is, if I demo a bike, even if its capabilities are precisely the same as mine, I will "need" a new bike. Im not going to open that door, I don't need to need any more stuff.

Geez Pete, it's just riding bikes. Its supposed to be fun, not overthought. I demo bikes all the time... Just cause it's fun to ride someone else's bike and try new stuff. Doesn't make me want one. North of the border is doing a Marin demo this Sunday that I'm gonna ride with grant (n10sive). We both just want to try a shorter travel 27.5 bike. I'll have to check out pivots offering and maybe go take out one of their bikes. Calaveras would probably be one of the best trail heads to test a bike. You could really push a demo bike hard there.

Favorite Trails: The one I'm riding today.
I stopped in at that shop a few weeks to check it out since it's in my neck of the woods. It's a small shop and the 2 guys there seemed nice. They told me about the demo this Friday.

Being that I'm in the market for a new bike I thought about checking it out. But I'm hesitant to test ride a Pivot for the same reasons others here have mentioned. Yes I'm in the market for a new bike but the absolute high end of my budget is about $3000 -- and even that is really pushing it. I'd really rather stay a few hundred below that. The Pivot that I would want retails for $3600 for the low end build. I don't want to go test ride one and fall in love when I absolutely can't afford to get one.

The struggle is real.

go test ride and if you find one you like, wait for the right deal to become available on the used market. And just think of all that glorious anticipation!
