Day 2 – Imagine hitting up a bike park that was way better than Big Bear, but had even less people? Our second day, was just that. There was barely 2 dozen cars in the parking lot on Saturday and our group of 5 consisted of nearly 1/6 of everyone on the mountain. I didn’t take my camera until the last couple of runs, so the first few pictures are courtesy of Deno. Chair lift ride up The soil up here is dirt based with some sections of shale on the DH runs. This is a small section of Wild Flower DH. Although Brian Head has lots of xc, we came to ride features. Most of the fun was to be had on Timer Line. This was the wall ride on the optional access route. After a triple set of table tops, a short log ride, and a wooden berm, you drop this. MVI_7759.AVI MVI_7757.AVI Further down after a boulder gap is Ninja Jump, which everyone can do. MVI_7762.AVI MVI_7761.AVI MVI_7760.AVI Little Gritty is the other DH course at Brian Head. The signature drop on the lower course even had QS shaking his head. But the best part of the park are the wooden features in the freeride forest. This old concrete tower support has several options Deno rolls the side Evdog rolls the top Or just huck it like QS does. Next is a teeter-totter followed by a small gap jump The real fun finally comes at the end with A, B, and C lines. C line B line A line We wore ourselves out riding to the very last chair at 430pm. Then it was off to the state liquor store to get beer greater than 3.2% ABV and Mexican food. It felt like an accomplishment to learn most all the features and get the trail flow down in a day’s time. If you’re into a mix of xc and am/fr, 2 days would be plenty here with the 6-7 trails. |

For the record, I don't know who that guy in the third to last pic is (white elbow pads, Fox 32 and blue wheels). Not me for sure, as I always have a finger on the front brake lever, always. Still a sweet pic though. And definately a fun ass day. My hands were sore at the end of that day, thanks to that shale on the runs.... |

Nice TR, that looks super fun!! I've always wanted to hit up someplace like that--where you can work up to stuff and get stoked off of what everyone else is hitting. Looks like good times! And did I actually see Evan's Pike set at full travel in some of those pics?? |

GP_pilot wrote: Evdog rolls the top Also for the record, the thought of rolling that concrete scared the sh*t out of me for some reason, so I'm definitely in the air too One of the things that impressed me most about Brian Head was the tacky soil. Even though its fairly dry I think they get enough thunderstorms to provide frequent moisture. Yet, the trails absorb this moisture well so it doesn't turn to mud. On this day it rained hard for 3-4 hrs before we got up in the morning. Not sure if that amount fell up at the ski hill too, but there was little more than puddles in the campground and the trails were pretty much perfect by the time we got up the hill. Here are some more pics from the day Despite an ominous beginning the weather was awesome all day As Sean said we didn't pull the cameras out too often as a lot of the features were fun, but not really pic-worthy. There were a few we did session, however: QS GP...hit this one so hard on one later run that he almost landed near the bottom. Not in this pic, unfortunately.... Deno also hit this so hard he almost landed near the bottom. Unfortunately, he was upside down at the time There were a couple features no one hit. You have to leave some for next time, right? drop on Little Gritty they might as well call it the Fail Rail . This was a relatively nasty drop into a sharp LH turn onto another steep. Next year.... Ninja drop, a few different angles.... QS more QS Stang GP It seemed a bit wrong to ride the easiest trail on the mountain last, but I had missed out lap 1 and the wood features on it due to a mechanical, and this was the easiest way to get there. So off to the top for "Color Country". It was still fun at speed... The clouds made for some cool backgrounds And the features delivered as promised...creative and fun but not gonna kill you GP on the hip Teeter Small gapper to ramp I had seen the signature stunt at the bottom from the chairlift each time up. But as with all the other wood features I had missed them on run1 for the group. It looked pretty huge from the chair, but didn't look too bad up close. Provided you pull up! Huge props to Stang for a) walking away from this crash and b) riding for 3 more days! Of course, the crash looks even worse when followed by a 10yr old kid who just kills it! The next couple are actually from the following day while waiting for GP to shuttle the van, but whatever... |

Looks like good times! This place is almost the same driving time as Mammoth 7 1/2 hrs w/out the 395 drive. It's smaller, more like Big Bear, but the quality of features are higher than Mammoth, and no kitty litter to deal with! I would go so far as to recommend this place over Mammoth for non-experts. Definitely a must do and there's lots of great trails around it. |

I think I tried to correct my line last minute and came off sideways. Just a nice reminder that my xc ass shouldn't be trying to jump off anything. haha. |

Man, you guys have had a great summer of riding! Inspiring TR's -- great photos and videos from beautiful places. I like how on the three Ninja videos in a row, each one flys farther. Thanks. |
