We have a trail work day planned for tomorrow Tuesday July 28th, morning with the City of Carlsbad.

We are going to be working on Serpentine to fix some of the dangerous ruts and holes that showed up this past winter.

The challenge is, due to Social Distancing rules, the City is limiting us to a total of 4 people.

We are looking for 1 more hard working, able bodied person that can put in some hard core trail work for about 4 hours tomorrow.

We meet at 7:30am at SkyHaven.

Again, just 1 person needed, please respond here so we can find who's interested.

I’m too decrepit to work hard for four hours tomorrow; besides I have a regular job. I know the majority miss the former berms and smoothness (not that they’ll allow berms again). I might be a bit of a contrarian but I don’t find the ruts and holes dangerous, and neither did the eight-year old I saw on it last weekend. Adjust speed and line accordingly — there’s a fast line worn in again. But, keeping it narrow and sustainable is important too. I do have one request — this steel post is an actual danger and needs to be removed. Thank you for your trail work and advocacy.

They might not allow berms, but certainly they need some water bars.

They City would never allow it......

but as the Calavera Trails Coalition continues to build trust we will get some more freedom as time goes by.

The news about the Bike Specific park at Veterans memorial is a step int eh right direction that hopefully filters down to Calavera.

Water bars aren't needed but a properly built trail will have slope and water diversions to allow the water to run off, not down, the trail. Most city workers don't understand that basic trail building concept.

Water Bars are needed since we cannot have "jumps", they are needed to be built to both divert water AND more importantly be a jump.

That may be but it doesn't change the validity of my statement. I'm not anti bike park but that is NOT mountain biking which is why I constantly berate SDMBA for stroking themselves over the Sweetwater Bike Park while 10's and 100's of new MOUNTAIN BIKE trails continue to get built in Prescott, Fruita, Bentonville and beyond.

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion of what mountain biking is to them.

I was able to test the work done today and indeed a few water erosion bumps were strategically placed for optimum fun.

We wanted to do more, but ran out of energy. With the city limiting to no more than 4 people there's only so much we can do.

At the moment the goals are to fix dangerous ruts and try to stabilize through some weather. While fixing that we are building relations and trust so we can have more liberties later.

Today we had a visit by the head of the department and they are very happy with what we're doing.

Fyi to Dan, the fence post that you mentioned is only dangerous because the trail moved 3 feet this winter. We planned to fix the original location of the trail, but we had no more energy left.

Come winter and rain, I think we'll be able to plan work days based on wether forecast or within 3 days of weather, In the meantime, we might plan another day, but will get 1000 feet of hose to get water to the work site.

Any chance they will ever opt for another Saturday trail work day?

We're trying. They still require oversight by City employee, so we are limited by that. The guy we have been working with is great and hopefully when we get to proper conditions we can make that happen.

He's actually out working with us, swinging pick's and shovels with us.

I almost hit that damn post on tonight’s ride, so I turned around and rode back up to see if I could pull it out. I’m too damn weak — that sucker is really in there! In fairness, I’ve been riding by it this whole year past with no close calls. Might not have been the brightest idea to have another shot of whiskey at the top before turning on my headlamp.
