Feedback Needed: Economic Impacts from CHER allowing Bikes.

Need some brainstorming from the group. List out all economic impacts, positive or negative, from CDFW amending title 14 on CHER and allowing Bicycles on an approved and managed trail network.

This is a question asked by the Fish and Game commission on the petition form.

This is a brainstorm so please list any and all thoughts or ideas. We will filter out later.

Thank you!

We could do trail maintenance
and they wouldn’t need Ranger
Gabe anymore.
That would save fish and game
40 or 50 grand a year!

Favorite Trails: Snipers Point, Doggo DH
PROS:
Free trail maintenance done correctly (stated above) to correct unsafe trails & runoff
Self policing activity as best as possible
Keep homeless activity down and/or reported which stops trash, health issues, fires, and crimes
Bringing more people to safely enjoy the outdoors that they pay taxes for
Positive economic impact to local stores and businesses
Properly planned and built trail system should reduce redundant spur trails
Clean up the waste that has been there for years helping the environment/area
Create viewing areas & rest stops for trail users reducing wide barren areas to stop/regroup
Build proper waterway crossing to safely cross where needed
Create water diversions to properly direct rain water off trails stopping erosion
The more people using an open space like this will have more eyes on illegal behavior
Give families and young kids the area to enjoy safely
People can exercise and gather to reduce stress and enjoy the outdoors
Save open space that is used for future generations to enjoy/ not be paved over
Having a clean, safe area for the animals to thrive
A great cause that local politicians can proudly put their name on to show they are doing something for those they represent.

CONS:
Cost to remove debris (but local companies would probably do this at no charge for the PR)
Can't really think of anything else other than this can be such a great thing, others will want to enjoy possible crowding TH access. It really has not been an issue in the past.

Favorite Trails: ???
More MTB trails => More people riding => Tourists visiting SD to ride => More purchases of bikes and bike parts and service of those bikes => More stays in hotels and people eating out => More beverages/snacks consumed post-rides => Yay positive economic impact.

There are plenty of examples across the country of towns that have experienced a positive economic impact by embracing mountain biking. They key to success for those examples was to involve a group of dedicated knowledgeable volunteers to help design and maintain the trails. These volunteers also can serve as hosts to introduce riders who are either new or from out of town.

THIS ^^^ Not that Carlsbad needs tourists to come to town to ride but every lille bit helps. I think Fruita more or less reinvented themselves as an MTB destination and now numerous cities have followed their lead and created financial bonanzas for the local coffers.
