Thanks to RJ for an email alert about this. Only a proposal at this point, and insurance, as always, is an issue. Hope it pans out!

I believe it got approved at this month's board meeting. Congrats to all those involved. Thanks for your hard work.

From Minette Ozaki's FB page.....

There’s going to be a Bike Park in San Diego County!!!

Just approved this week in Valley Center, it is the first public Bike Park approved in the County. How did this come about?

The General Manager of the Valley Center Park and Rec. District sought out the Bicycle Representative of the Valley Center Trails Association, Minette Ozaki, to discuss the potential use of an under utilized piece of property owned by the District. Could it be used for bikes?

Minette contacted Gravity Cycling Inc. president, Steve Ford since his group has 2 other approved bike parks within their ranks. Steve wrote the proposal while Minette wrote the MOU. They brought Cameron Sinohui in as a local representative and builder. The team was now complete! These three presented their pump track plan to the VCPRD Board on March 19th, 2014. The Board did not approve this 1st proposal, asking for a couple items to be added to the MOU. At this point, Steve decided to expand the pump track into a complete Bike Park proposal. This was a risk, but with a possible bike park as the prize, the team agreed to try. The three passionate and dedicated volunteers came back one month later with this new proposal. The VCPRD Board scheduled a special meeting on April 23, 2014 to vote on the new proposal and it passed unanimously!

They are planning to get to work immediately and are accepting donations to help speed the process along. If you would like to make a donation directly to the Valley Center Bike Park, message Steve or Minette for more info. If you’d like to mail a check, we thank you! Please make it payable to Gravity Cycling Inc. and send to 15792 Caminito Cercado, San Diego CA 92128.

Today was a celebration ride! The 3 amigos who made the VC bike park thing happen! Cameron Sinohui, Minette Ozaki, and Steve Ford — with Minette Ozaki.

Yes.

i knew the 'pirate' part would eventually have to be removed if Steve wanted to accomplish what he was aiming for with the management agencies...good for them

From Rich.....

"Finally!!!!! It took Valley Center to show SD how it is done. Carlsbad shame on you for having proposals and interested people on your doorstep for years and not address the needs of your citizenry. Encinitas shame on you for also shining on enthusiastic people who presented interest and were passed over.
San Diego shame on you for generally blowing off mtn biking in all forms , mismanaging open space resources and generally lacking the vision that could make SD the mtn bike destination of the country.
Congratulations Minette and Steve!"

(My comment)

....also, shame on San Marcos for throwing a monkey wrench; (committees, studies, meetings), etc... into what could of been a great trail system instead of DG strewn service roads labeled as "trails".

Great looking pump track, but it's on private land. Anyone know the owner?

With the move to OK I'll be building a pump track in the back yard, and I'm looking to do some in the field research.
