Post subject:  Day before Serpentine was destroyed

On Memorial Day, May 30, 2022, I decided to "Memorialize" my 92 Bridgestone MB-2 with a ride at Calavera.

Little did I know it would be the last decent ride down Serpentine for a while.

Enjoy!

So what now? Does it sit closed for months? Should we start riding in the line that we want?

Trail is open, start riding it in. We are going to do a Trail Work day on Wed June 15th to clean things up as best we can.

These are Carlsbad trails.
We are paving them.

I rode this a week ago and repeated use of the trail is starting to work in a solid line. What is hilariously bad about this situation is the section that needed the work is still eroded to crap.

Rode serpentine today. At the top it looked like random asshats with shovels and garden rakes were breaking berms and refilling the hard line with “dust”. It is once again more like a plowed field than a trail. Halfway down I ran into the perps. 2 women, 2 young men and a boy working on the trail with said implements. Several were wearing “Urban Corp” shirts. When I asked what they were doing and who for, one woman said Carlsbad had hired them to fix the trail due to “complaints”.

When contacted for his wisdom on our future interactions with the city of Carlsbad, Urban Yeti stated “The city of Carlsbad are a bunch of f@@king liars.”

I am tired now…

All part of the masterplan to accommodate to tandem stroller pushing urbanites fitted in tight yoga pants with cell phone in one ear and loosely holding Brutus's lease in the other hand, while they gossip obliviously and unaware of their surroundings! Wonder if the dog is picking up the same weird vibe. :?

Well on that thought- The freeriding babies or puppies, etc. Surely have it made...in this gold fish tank.

Ain't is so

There is a strong contingent of grey haired karens who walk these trails.

I had an interaction with one, once, at the pad.... barely made it out alive.

I was informed late Monday that the City was planning to do some "Touch Up" on the trail, including adding some post/wire fencing to limit additional trail widening.

They said it was work that was outside the scope of what "Volunteers" should be doing.

I'll follow up with them AGAIN, on this. I've never dealt with Urban Corp, but I'm pretty sure a couple volunteers from the Cycling community can do a better job than what I'm seeing in pictures.

UGGGGG

Any Updates? I have been sick and not riding for a while now. I need to get back out there soon now that my cough is subsiding.

Nothing has changed. There’s a line through the soft stuff that’s a little bit packed down, and you best follow it or you’ll find yourself wallowing in what looks like it might be a berm but is just a pile of loose roost.
