My friend Dale (most of the people left here on DT know him) puts together videos of some of our trips, mostly for the benefit of his family and a few friends. He isn’t on any social media, but doesn’t mind it being shared. Fair warning: This is about an hour, there are zero jumps, and features way too much walking the bikes through a willow-choked stream bed (the actual time spent in the Middle Willows was about half or three-quarters of an hour). You could fast forward that. The POV camera would have been better on his helmet, because you see too much of all the stuff lashed to his handlebars ( I finally convinced him to get a seat pack for the next trip). He does do a really nice job of editing in music and slides from our still photos (I just take my phone for photos). This was Rick’s first bikepack trip. This was my fourth time down Coyote Canyon, the previous three trips being day rides, with the first being in the nineteen eighties. We had a really great time, and if you’re curious, here’s what it was like. Thank you Dale!

A friend and I used to do an annual jeep trip from the Anza end, I think that section you were slogging thru was the section wrecked by a flash flood in the 90s, used to be real nice and wide enough for vehicles. Dec 91.

Yes, there was a flood that really changed it from that one main channel made wide and deep by vehicles into a braided wide flat creek bed, and since vehicles were banned three years later it grew back thick all across the whole canyon bottom.

Haha! “floor buffer” bars - that’s good — I’ve never heard that one. I rode through there in the eighties too with those bars. Still have that bike with ‘em.

Driving through Coyote Canyon from Borrego Springs up to Anza, 1982.

Always wanted one those old wagoneers, or is that a gladiator?

‘65 Gladiator. Still have that too, but unlike the bike it is not in running condition. It was running fine when I parked it years ago though…sigh. A guy left a note yesterday asking if I want to sell it. I “intend” to get it running and fixed up, but realistically who knows if I ever will. Working on bikes is easier and I’ve gotten kinda lazy.

A couple more pix from the eighties.
