The section from North of the Border bike shop to WagonWheel crossing in LPQ has quickly becoming a very cool section of trail on the work commute. It will also be the last dirt seen on the Archipelago ride this coming month.

First of all, if the damn trucks stay off of it, for which they have for awhile, it is reverting to some really nice, fast, fun, and flowy NARROW singletrack.

Second, all the work Rich Julian has done to make the WagonWheel crossing passable and not only that, but all his little handiwork by the Old Adobe to make that perennial muddy wet mess a dry and fun little section.

Problem.....route was always inundated with water as shown below. You can see the volume of water is considerable from the current ripples.

Image

Solution: funnel the water and install a simple "bridge". There is quite a bit of water flowing here....and is allowed to effectively drain.

Image

....and, deliniate the route with rocks to focus runners, hikes, bikes onto the prescribed "dry" route. A winning solution for all.....and, it makes for a bit more entertainment when navigating thru this section.

Riders will be coming thru here this April on Rich Julian's Archipelago ride.....I hope the work is appreciated (thanks to the man behind the curtain!).

Yeah, I noticed those nice changes on Thursday. Good work as usual by Mr. Julien. We also climbed the Shits for the first time; that chicken wire made the difference! There are nice little jumps on Cobbles too which are all new to me since I ride PQ maybe 4 times a year. You are very lucky to have this as your commute Basil.

Yes those small but ingenious changes that Rich made make for an entirely functional and enjoyable section of trail.
And I must add that I rode Shits for the first time since the upper switchbacks were installed. I helped with the lower switchback installation, (as much as a guy with one arm in a sling could help)... I immediately recognized Rich's work.....the chicken wire reminded me of a place, another place, a magical place, long, long, ago, and far away........

I'm too late again for the Archipeligo Ride.....I see it's filled. Oh, well. Maybe Next Year.

I dont know, I actually kind of like riding throught the soupy wet mess. Its like a trail feature, see who can go through it the fastest and make the biggest splash :ninja:

Nicely done. But if we get any more rain this week, PQ will be closed through the time of the Archipelago ride...

The creek rose 3.5 feet last night... I'm guessing PQ will be closed for a while.
