Ride then run. One of my favorite things to do. Make both of them hard too, it makes you a better person. I like to do a big loop on the bike from Penny Pines(25+ miles), then run the PCT to Garnet Peak and back. Extend the run as you like. I also like to run the section of the Noble Canyon 50k course starting from Penny Pines.

Thanks! If I don't end up working thats what I am gonna do on monday.

Honestly, the thought of running when I could be on my bike makes me want to hurl. If I still have the time or energy to run after a ride, it tells me that I either didn't ride hard enough or long enough.

Admittedly, I don't have the most structured training regimen nor will I ever be in "peak" condition. And that's OK because that's also what keeps training fun and interesting.

There are two things that I've found help round out my time on the bike - boxing and surfing. An hour of alternating between heavy bag and speed bag work and skipping rope is a great complete body workout. And surfing for an hour or two is a decent workout but more so good for the soul. If I can't do any of these, then I'll go to the gym.

I used to do the triathlon thing. I had a swim coach that told me i "swim like a brick"
I loved -LOVED- running.
Post knee surgery it's a pain to do.
I am heavier now, so no doubt thats a large part of it. I still ride my bike form work to a meetup spot and run with my wife (She runs -I jog / look like a total cook) and it feels great to run after a ride. I always could run significantly further after warming up on the bike than just running alone.
When training for the San Diego international triathlon, I looked forward to my bike/run brick workout days.
Probably won't ever do another tri, but it's a great way to get in really good shape.

I've jsut recently started more cross training, hitting the gym 2-3 times a week and mixing in riding and hiking more. Best feeling was having my wife hand my ass to me on a hike last week.

My favorite is swimming. It is full of fun and useful for maintaining my fitness level.
I spend 30 to 40 min for it.It increases my stamina and improves my aerobic process. Running is also good but it doesn't attract me.

I used to run, mostly trail running. I just loved running down boulder-choked arroyos in ABDSP & JT. But about 25 years ago I twisted my left knee in the Himalayas, and then walked about 150 miles with it like that. Never been the same since, but just ignored it. Diagnosed with chondromalacia some years later, just went slower and not as far. Carrying a pack got painful but those Cho-pat knee straps and ski poles helped. Then about four years ago the left hamstring got chronically sore. Then this year I crashed and broke my left hip. Hip's all healed now, but running is not happening. Oh, and got a disc bulging on the left side of my lower back, so I can't stand in one place long without pain. "Sinister" shit if you'll pardon the pun. But the absolutely GREAT news is that NONE of that hurts when riding my bike! Life is GOOD.

Lately I've been forced to get my sweat in during the week at the gym. I used to hate treadmills and still do sort of, just less and less the more I do it. The TVs and wildlife are good. One thing that is cool is the stairmaster. Lots of work can get done in a short period of time. However, I don't think any of this is helping my bike riding skills. :(

I've been looking into exercising that will directly translate to being a stronger rider. I find that would be more goal orienting than just running or doing another type of exercise trying to stay in "shape."

I use to go to the gym all the time, but it just kind of became a pain. I like the idea of training to make something I really enjoy more enjoyable.
