Well, I know it will stop a fall in a rock garden...but is kinda like a derailer. Doesn't always hold up under 208lbs

Decided to take Belizean's and my wife, albeit loving, persistent advice to get an x-ray of my black/blue thumb after a fall on wednesday in the rocks up near the water tower at calaveras.

As much as I hated to see it, the xray was clear as day. I had an axial load type compression fracture through the distal phalanx. Basically split my thumb in half from the tip through the 1st joint. Not great news but still optimistic, I hoped a splint and 6 weeks would get me close to new.

Today, I saw an orthopaedic surgeon and learned I also tore my ulnar collateral ligament (lets you squeeze w/ ur thumb) which requires surgical repair and 10 weeks recovery. So monday I get to go under a general and nerve block while they add some pins and wires...good times! Wish me luck.

10weeks!! Gonna miss riding with all of you guys, thank you for your texts and support...leaving this anonymous; you know who you are. don't wanna ruin anyones rep of being tough, lol. I'll be doin' my best to maintain conditioning! In my boredom, expect a few extra posts and maybe we can even post up a non-ride related BBQ, beer/dr pepper party

Heres a few basic photos of how/what it looks like-

Well I can't sleep, damn heart is pounding when i lie down...prolly just dehydrated.

Surgery went well today, they pinned and straightened out my bones on the end of me thumb; and most importantly reattached that ligament which apparently had completely detached. Good thing I did this sooner than later as that sucker would have had no chance to heal.

Should be interesting as this numbness wears off any minute now...damn wrist is starting to hurt. Sounds like a new injury, you'd think Raptorz was in there helpin w/surgery, wth man! ...thank god I don't remember; that could really give a guy nightmares
