Finally, involuntary I join the the ranks of the Broken Bone Club as a new unofficial member.

After years of outdoor sports & few military expeditions, I somehow never sustained any bone fractures, but a few shoulder and knee dislocations. Now recently a month ago I fractured my radial head at the elbow going OTB, landing urban assault style on a flat concrete sidewalk. Recovery is slow but I'm optimistic that I will return to my human power- 2 wheel pleasures someday.

Haven't rode a bike since the incident. I did try going down my short driveway at home the other day, but it was too painful without raising the stem height. I have months of Physical therapy before riding again. Back to hiking, and maybe swimming soon.

Dang! Gotta be different, huh? Most people break the other end of that bone. Sorry to hear - sounds very painful. Heal up well and fast!

Hang in there. Cycling is a magical, life changing event. I got more retained hardware in my leg than the metal in a 1911. And I have plates, screws, etc in my shoulder too. It takes time, but yo got time. Take plenty of time before you throw a leg over yer steed. it will be patiently waiting for you. So will the trails.

First time back on the MTB cruising trough the trees at local Vista trails near the duck pond coming from
the south near the dawg park. Since Flightline is long gone. The Duck pond & Calaveras have become my direct door-step to trail rides.

My bones have healed but my bike skills lack confidence and have deteriorated some what, despite my feeble age excuse over 50. Those physical conflicts are primarily mental. Which reminds me how I got to this point of time. That San Diego native baseball hall of fame player place to ride has always gave me the creeps for its trauma and sure enough my branch appendage snapped there last winter.

Now I have dialed it down some until my courage comes back. I will always enjoy the quantum freedom of Mountain Biking in Nature for ever.

Ride-ON!

Glad to hear you're back on the bike, and the duck pond trails are a good choice since there's plenty of shade. Pretty darn hot today until the breeze picked up.
