So it turns out I fractured my ring finger last weekend. It is a hairline fracture no big deal but a break nevertheless so I'm in a splint for at least four weeks. My wedding ring being on likely was a contributing factor to the fracture since it is thick and thus acted as a fulcrum when I fell and wrenched my finger. My wife was real happy to hear that  Here is a pre splint shot from another thread.

What was that, about 1/2 way down Idylwild? Nice job of completing the ride. In fact, I don't even remember a single complaint about your hand hurting.

Although I have been having some bad dreams, and your inflated elbow is the headliner...

Bummer. Happy birthday? Well, people have had worse injuries happen to them in Idyllwild...so I'm glad you were not hurt even more badly. I have thought about the ring thing before, as mine is relatively heavy as well, but I prefer not to remove it. May need to rethink that. Looks like you were able to get it off before the swelling got too bad? Hope you heal up quickly!

Bummer Mike, heal quickly.

I don't ride wearing my ring. A few years ago I dislocated my right ring finger going OTB. The medial phalange was overlapping the proximal phalange. I reset it (ouch, almost vomited) and rode on. It swelled up quite a bit. If it had been my left ring finger, the ring would have had to be cut off, I imagine.

Yes, I recall you had a rough one there a few tears ago. I have to thank Adrien aka jjthewhale for the critical on the spot remove the ring advice as it did swell up big pretty fast. Would have been bad to have the ring snapped off and a balloon finger and a likely divorce as souvenirs.

Hope you heal fast Mike. I would be screwed since I can't get my ring off my finger and it's been there for 37 years..
