I went OTB going over a drop towards the top of candygram today. I normally walk it over, but had some extra confidence (and paid for it). The bike came down on top of me and the front brake lever punctured my left ankle

I had to limp it down candygram and then to a neighborhood to the south where my car was parked.

I got four stitches to close it up and have to wear a boot for two weeks.

They say confidence is 90% on drops, but that remaining 10% sure can hurt you. Heal up fast!

Candygram is a fairly new trail just east of Blazing saddles. At the top of Candygram you can continue to Mongo back down the hill. There's also a trail called Congo which turns south at the top of Candygram. Fun stuff. Look them up on strava in Santee.

They also say that speed is your friend, except in those instances when it isn't.

Anyone have some video of Candygram? I'm curious about what this trail looks like.

Type in "candygram santee" into youtube. The guy who posted the video has a pretty cool website "mountain bike diaries". There's two videos of the climb. The longer one shows one section he has trouble clearing that he edited out from the shorter video.

I ate it at the 6:15 mark. Doesn't look difficult, but somehow my wheel got turned the wrong direction on the way over.

Thanks, dealing with infection now. Three antibiotics trying to knock it out.

Can't make movies like that anymore.

Cheer up, mate. At least you didn't give bone, or teeth. About this time last year was when I went OTB on a crazy descent around here called "Rocking Horse". I got a real close-up view of those rocks, all right.

I also gave quite a start to the hikers and other cyclists on my 6 mile pedal back to where I parked. Needed 7 stitches on the upper lip for that little mishap...

What I found out though, is that people really do yield the trail to you when your face looks like raw hamburger and there's blood running down the front and back of your jersey!

Maybe they thought the zombie apocalypse was beginning with mtbers.

Stitches to the lip does not sound pleasant, but it could always be worse right, like broken face. In my case, if my bars would've turned the other way, I could've ended up rolling down the side of the hill.
